I remember the nights he came to me, with alcohol on his breath, his heart broken by yet another another girl. Just one look in his eyes and I didn't care. I melted.
As he made me laugh and my heart beat with life, his smile, his smell, his insistence of looking me in the eyes, I felt like I was the only person in his world.
He was my first love and still one of my best friends.
I remember the day my daughter was born. I don't believe there was ever a more beautiful baby girl in the entire universe. Big eyes staring at me, soft fuzzy brown hair, I hated giving her back to the nurses. But, they had their job and I had mine, as I proceeded to tell every hospital worker on the way back to my room, that I loved them so much...with a smile and sparkle in my eyes, because... iv drugs. ;)
I remember my children's first laugh. Like wind chimes dancing on the wind.
There really is nothing more precious and contageous as a child's laugh. I could sit on a beach all day with my eyes closed just listening to children play.
This is what Christmas is to me. All of life's magical moments wrapped up into glittering, colorful, joyful lights and even more lights, (can there really be too many lights)? Music and the spirit of giving.
Just like the book The Polar Express, Christmas is in your heart. I know I can still hear the bell from Santa's sleigh. I actually have one.
Can you? Listen carefully....
- never lose your laugh -
