A few years ago I was getting my oncology certification when the teacher told a story.

They said that a patient asked them about cancer and sex. The patient was in their 70's. The instructor said they did not answer and  changed the conversation.

Well, I wasnt about to let that stand. I raised my hand and explained that Self Serve , our local sexuality resource center,  has books and classes for people dealing with illness yet still wanting fulfilling sex lives.

Ths teacher bumbled all over themselves.

I went on to say that it took a lot of courage for that patient to ask that type of question, and that we as medical professionals,  owe them better answers.

Not talking about sex not only increases shame based thinking. It also stops people from learning about sexual health.

I read a story about a guy who had to have something removed from his ass every few months by the ER doc.

The Doc was giggling at the latest when the nurse walked up and told the Dr off. The nurse then went to the guy  and had a frank conversation with the patient about flaired base sex toys. The patient was not seen again for a foreign object insertion.

We owe each other honest and non shame based conversations.

We owe each other better.

Fen'Harel(dom male) - Everyone poops. Everyone will have sex. Everyone has some form of kink.... Shaming sex in any way is disgraceful and sexual knowledge should ALWAYS be shared if the right moment arises. Love this post MB. I talk to my friends about Shiro and I's kink all the time. You never know who'll need the advice

MissBonnie(dom female){oz} - loved this post too! I just got back from seeing my post opp surgeon for abdominal surgery (yesterday). I was with my submissive partner. We sat side ways to his desk. He then points at the screen and taps it, as if to get my attention. In text was words "able to return to sexual activities" written in the scan reports ...... I dont think he could say it, out loud. I just smiled and told my sub about it on the car ride home. It amazes me they can tell a patient they have serious health problems but yet talking about sex is so hard. We do owe eachother better

Well.... would your Dr be willing to give you an actual Dr order that says that? If so, I would frame it !!!

Shiro(sub female) - I love this post!!!

When I first met my therapist, she asked why I had piercings. I told her because I was a masochist and I liked how they made me look. I then went on to tell her about my submissive lifestyle, how it fits into my mental illness, we went on to talk about the Meyers Briggs test and how we were both INTP-J and so was einstein, therefore proving he was a pervert, lol.

She's been impressed and learning from my honesty since we started seeing eachother. She's helping me train my thoughts and learning about people's alternative lifestyles all at the same time (she's already very liberal and open minded).

Your timing on this post is hilariously coincidental with a conversation I had with her today. She agreed with me that the sex shamers usually have the weirdest skeletons in their closet.

Closets are for clothes, not our happiness nor our health. MB, thanks for being the change we all want to see in the world. :)
