She pulled her coat close around her and shivered lightly as the evening air began to develop a distinct chill. She glanced briefly at the tail lights of the cab as they disappeared around the bend in the lane and suddenly realised how dark it was and how utterly remote the large house appeared to be. The twilight grew deeper and her footsteps crunched on the paved path that lead up to the front door. She’d been before, several times, but even so, the butterflies in her tummy began to take flight.
“wear a dress” that was last message earlier today. No clue as to what sort of dress or why wear a dress on such a cold night. She could guess the answers well enough and the black dress was somewhat shorter than one that she would usually choose for a night out. But after all she considered that this would be a night in!
a light flicked on as if in answer to the doorbell and familiar footsteps came to open the door.
”come in, you look cold” and as she stepped inside, “let me take your coat”.
She knew that the dress was the right choice.
“Go to the study and make yourself comfortable and I’ll bring some drinks”….
