THE CAGE Privacy Policy

Below you will find THE CAGE privacy policy which outlines what information we collect when you use our services (website, app, mobile applications, etc.).  We explain what information we store and otherwise use and how to delete that information if you so choose.  We hope that this transparency will give all of THE CAGE community a clear understanding of our respect for your privacy as well as our compliance with privacy law.

All personal data collected on subjects is in line with the requirements of the GDPR.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We only collect information required to provide the various services that the site has to offer and to monitor usage and interactions. None of the information collected is used for profiling or for ad targeting.

 

For example, profile details are only used to construct a user profile page, and to make relevant user’s appearance in our member search results.

EMAIL VERIFICATION

During the registration process we ask for your email address.  The prime use of this address is to identify you if you happen to lose their password, and in any other case of communication outside THE CAGE. In this case we will send you an email with a link to verify that the address is yours. Users are not able to enter the site before we have verified their email. For security we encourage you not to use your primary email, but an alternative one.  We will never use your email address other than internally for the purposes mentioned here.

PHONE VERIFICATION

For the sole purpose of protecting our users from fraud, fake nicks, bots, duplicates and scammers, we have made phone verification mandatory during the registration process. After requesting your phone number we send that number a pass code to verify it.  We then check to see if your number has already been registered with us.  If the phone number is in use you won’t be to complete registration. No other use is made with this phone number.  We keep phone numbers apart from the rest of the site data for the duration of membership. We may keep phone numbers for longer duration if we feel it is required for the safety of our users.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT ABOUT REGISTERED USERS:

We collect most of your data directly from you, we keep the amount of mandatory data to the minimum needed to operate the services we offer to you.

Required:

  • Nickname - we encourage our members to pick a pseudonym and not identify by their real name
  • Gender
  • Regional information - as specified by the member
  • Email
  • Phone number

Optional:

  • Profile details
  • Information about Sexual Orientation
  • Avatar image
  • Community interactions (follows, likes, etc.)
  • Posts, responses, or other content published by user
  • Private messages exchanged with other users
  • Different pieces of information required for the operating the site services.  

We log:

  • Session activity
  • IP address
  • Browser Information

TRACKING & COOKIES

We use browser cookies and similar means to recognize you when you return to THE CAGE.  THE CAGE does not track you across the internet.  We only track you when you visit THE CAGE in order to offer you the best service possible.

We don’t track non-registered users individually, although we may use a cookie only to make sure users have initially agreed to follow our age restriction statement before they can view the site content.

THE CAGE does not offer targeted paid advertising, meaning that we don't collect information in order to advertise to you.  Nor do we sell, exchange, or otherwise share your information in any way that can be used to track you.

In  order to give you the best experience possible, we collect information from your interactions on the network. This also includes your Internet Protocol address and information about your device and browser.

 

THE CAGE won't transfer personal information about you to third parties for advertising or promotional purposes. We won't sell information about you.

CONSENT

By consenting to this privacy notice you are giving us permission to process your personal data specifically for the purposes identified.

Consent is required for THE CAGE to process both types of personal data, but it must be explicitly given. Where we are asking you for sensitive personal data we will always tell you why and how the information will be used.

EMAIL FROM THE CAGE

On occasion we'll be required to send you emails about your account in order to notify you about service changes or to inform you of new policies.  You can't opt out of these emails without deleting your account.  You can, however, opt out of non-administrative emails such as blog and topic follow notifications, etc.  You can change your notification preferences here.

When you interact with an email from THE CAGE we may receive information about that interaction (such notice that you’ve opened an email or clicked on a particular link in an email).  We will never email you to ask for your password or other account information.  If you receive an email requesting this information please send it to us immediately so we can investigate.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

THE CAGE collects and stores information about its users in order to improve the overall experience of the services. THE CAGE is a community website that promotes content sharing and interaction such as blogs, forums, personal messages etc.  For these public services the information is collected, processed, and saved.

THE CAGE will process (collect, store and use) the information you provide in a manner compatible with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We will endeavour to keep your information accurate and up to date, and not keep it for longer than is necessary. THE CAGE is required to retain information in accordance with the law, such as information needed for income tax and audit purposes. How long certain kinds of personal data should be kept may also be governed by specific business-sector requirements and agreed practices. Personal data may be held in addition to these periods depending on individual business needs.

PUBLIC NATURE OF PERSONAL DATA

Logged-in users may choose to interact publicly with THE CAGE community by liking a post or comment, following blogs, sharing links, or writing original posts.  Where such personal data may reveal special category protected data, it is processed on the basis that it is manifestly made public by the user.  If you do not agree to this public usage do not create an account or use these features on THE CAGE.

PURPOSES OF PROCESSING

  • To test and promote our services
  • Gather usage statistics of services
  • Publish user-generated content
  • Provide access to paid content
  • Fight spam, fraud, and other abuse of services
  • Provide support, keep track on issues and respond to user requests.

HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION

We use third parties for different services, such as web hosting, analytics, phone verification, customer care, advertising, payment, security and others. We make sure to carefully select our providers and partners to ensure they conform with our confidentiality standard. We share the minimal information needed to utilize their services. we will not share information about your sexual orientation or phone number with anyone without receiving your explicit consent to do that.

In some instances we may share your account information with third parties if:

When it is required by law.  If we are required and believe it is necessary we may provide a user’s account information for a legal process such as a court order, search warrant, etc.  or to assist in the investigation, prevention, or detection of a crime or to protect the safety of any person.  We may also share information when disclosure would mitigate our liability in an actual or threatened lawsuit, if it is necessary to protect our legal rights and the legal rights of our users, business partners, or other interested parties; to protect our interests and agreements with you and to take action to investigate, prevent or otherwise act to prevent illegal activity, fraud, or other wrongdoing.

HOW LONG WE RETAIN YOUR INFORMATION

THE CAGE retains personal data associated with your account for the lifetime of your account.  if you would like to delete your personal information you can delete your account at any time.  Deleted account profile pages will yield an error 404 “file not found” page, immediately upon initiating deletion, and will become unrecoverable in our system after a period of 30 days.

We retain your personal data even after you have closed your account if reasonably necessary to comply with our legal obligations (including law enforcement requests), meet regulatory requirements, resolve disputes, maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our User Agreement, or fulfill your request to “unsubscribe” from further messages from us. We will retain de-personalized information after your account has been closed.

 

To delete your payment or billing information, you will need to do so with your payment provider, as THE CAGE only has minimal secure access to those records as needed to provide the services.

You may correct information associated with your account from the preferences page and by editing your profile.

 

You may withdraw consent by deleting your account at any time through the profile edit page, which will erase your personal information completely within 14 days (except to the extent THE CAGE is prevented by law from deleting your information).

 

You may object at any time to the use of your personal data by contacting info@thecage.co. If your complaint relates to alleged misuse of your personal data by a third party, it may result in suspension of that post or account in keeping with relevant law, public interest, our contractual obligations, and the rights of expression and access to information of others.

You may at any time lodge a complaint regarding the processing of your personal data by THE CAGE with the Supervisory Authority of your EU member state.

YOUR RIGHTS

If you sign up for a CAGE account, you may at any time request an export of your personal information by contacting us at info@thecage.co

MODIFYING OR DELETING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

You can access, modify, or delete your CAGE account here.

To protect information in case you may wish to return and/or to protect you from accidental or malicious deletion or manipulation of your account, we may maintain some of your information for a brief time.  However, after a time, your information and content will be unrecoverable.

CROSS BORDER DATA TRANSFER

Sharing of information laid out in Section 6 sometimes involves cross-border data transfers, for instance to the United States of America and other jurisdictions. As an example, where the service allows for users to be located in the European Economic Area (“EEA”), their personal information is transferred to countries outside of the EEA. We use standard contract clauses approved by the European Commission or other suitable safeguard to permit data transfers from the EEA to other countries.  Standard contractual clauses are commitments between companies transferring personal data, binding them to protect the privacy and security of your data.

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

THE CAGE and it’s services are restricted to users aged 18 or older. We do not permit anyone under the age of 18 to use our services and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18.  We require all of our users to immediately report any user who is underage.  Please use the report feature or contact a staff member immediately if you detect anyone under the age of 18 on THE CAGE platform.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY 

THE CAGE reserves the right to change or update this policy. We'll notify you about significant changes.

LEGAL BASIS

In order to provide the services, THE CAGE collects and stores personal data about its users on the legal basis of consent given when you create an account and agree to the Privacy Policy.
