I have a small side job as a stage violence and intimacy choreographer for community theater in my area. Any time I have a new weapon, tool, technique, etc. I use a three step process.
Study- do a bit of research on how others use the new thing. A quick internet search is very helpful. Try- I will take some test swings against a pillow and a wooden post for how best to control the new weapon without damaging the different surfaces. If it's a new technique I try it on an inanimate object. I always find some way to test my understanding of how the new thing is used. Test- I will test it with a trusted and informed partner who can vocalize feedback. I use the same principle with new kinks, toys, etc. |
