The reasons we lie are folded in an inauthentic view of ourselves. Hopefully, we all take hold of the opportunity to introspect and see truth. In our own truth we find the tonic to clear away our own deception.

The reasons people lie are incredibly nuanced and couched in their own worldview, motivations, and desires. Each statement needs to be evaluated on its own merits but everything boils down to two basic categories: to gain, or to prevent loss.

Either of those two categories can go as deep as you want. Don’t spend so much time on whether or not someone is telling the truth but rather why you’re questioning that trust so much. If you suspect deceit, there’s likely a reason. Trust your gut.
