What BDSM/Kink terminology is most frequently misunderstood by newcomers? Additionally, which key terms would you consider essential for a beginner's vocabulary?

Whether you are new or experienced: What are some terms you don't understand that you'd like explained/defined?

Honestly, there have been terms, abbreviations, etc. we have seen throught the years that we still have no idea what they mean.

My Dom & I have been in the Kink world for decades and see new things pop up all the time. We keep it simple and say exactly what we mean.

At one of the events we attended, a Board Certified Sexologist and Certified Sex Coach stated, "Don't get hung up on terminology. Many people have their own definitions for things." We've lived by that and if haven't been afraid to ask someone what they mean.

I'm a newcomer to kink/BDSM, and the vast majority of kink terminology just seems like a bunch of tedious word salad that I find completely uninteresting. Whenever a subculture gets too hung up on its own "insider lingo," I think it has more to do with signaling to others that you're a member of the Cool Kids' Club than it does with facilitating ease of communication.

I can agree with this to some degree, however there are true real definitions for somethings. Words do have meaning to them and just throwing around words without some understanding of them can be dangerous especially for newbies into the lifestyle.

When I say terms, I don't mean abbreviations I mean things like:
Vetting, Frenzy, Honorifics, etc.

This response is not only insulting and disrespectful to the lifestyle but it is also dangerous and uneducated.
