Well it’s been one of those days today. I truthfully don’t have very many of these. I typically take things in stride…. But today..uggh. When I occasionally have days like this I’m reminded of this incident of painting basements.
It was a mission trip to a small town in Mexico. The group was small and we were there to help with an irrigation ditch for their crops. The first couple of days went pretty much as planned and everybody seemed to be pleased with the progress. About the 4th day, one of the older women in the group noticed that the children in this small town attended school in a basement.
The basement was as you would expect a basement in a small Mexican town too look. It was dirty, makeshift desks, poor lighting, the paint on the walls was in various states of disrepair and neglect and there was no window. The children were eager and happy though because this “school” was only a recent development. The woman decided that this was not a fit place for children to be educated…and here’s where the wheels came off the bus. She convinces the others in the group that we must immediately turn our attention to this basement and focus all of our energies there. So….
We began cleaning and painting the basement. This took our group the remainder of our few days left in the town. Despite the constant and loud objections from the town people that were for some reason singularly focused on water for their crops (not sure why?), that basement looked awesome after we were done. Strangely enough, we were never invited back for any other mission trips to that town. My lesson here, yes…you may be busy doing something that is important to you but are you doing what’s REALLY important to them…are you painting basements? When in a D/s relationship, keep this in mind
