BDSM 101: Watersports

By CAGE Staff(staff)     September 20, 2024

No, we're not talking about aquatic sports. In the kink world, "watersports" has an entirely different meaning - one that revolves around pee.

Let's talk about it.

Wait. What? Pee?!

Yep!

In the world of kink, "watersports" is a urine-centric activity, and it usually refers to the act of peeing on someone or being peed on.

You might also hear it referred to as a "golden shower".

Some people may also use the term "watersports" to mean anything involving pee play, but some people find that this is using the term incorrectly. There are lots of separate, niche kinks in the world of piss play, and using the term "watersports" to describe all of them is about as useful as using the word "BDSM" to describe what you're into within kink. We all know how many different kinks are within the world of BDSM!

Other pee play kinks would include omorashi, wetting, urolagnia (piss drinking), bathroom control, human toilet, adult diapers, or public urination. It can even get even more niche from there, with some kinksters finding themselves only turned on by peeing in a pair of jeans - but a pair of sweatpants would be an instant turn-off.

If you're into in-person play, most dungeons prohibit watersports play because the clean-up involved can be a momentous task - and someone who didn't consent to being peed on certainly doesn't want it to encroach on their own scene!

Why Would Someone Be Into Watersports?

It can be hard to narrow down, exactly, why anyone might be into a kink. The same can be said for golden showers and watersports.

However, some common reasons that people cite for being into the kink include:

  • It's Taboo: You're "supposed" to be turned on by naked bodies; you're not necessarily "supposed" to be turned on by pee. A lot of people are aroused by watersports just because it's so taboo. It can feel forbidden to play with it.
  • It's More Spurting: A lot of us are biologically programmed to by turned on by the sights and sounds of orgasm. Peeing can look a whole lot like ejaculation - except you get to enjoy it for even longer!
  • The Sensations: Do you love hopping into a perfectly-warmed shower? Guess what? Pee is warm too! A lot of people fall in love with golden showers because it can simply feel great. It's a warm interlude that's available on-demand.
  • It's Intimate and Private: When's the last time you invited a new co-worker into the bathroom stall to watch you pee? Probably not recently. Taking care of our bodily functions is usually considered a very private, "keep to yourself" task. Sharing this vulnerable space with another person can be a turn-on to itself, and it can feel like a bonding experience.
  • It Can Be Humiliating: While watersports play isn't inherently humiliating or degrading, it can be with the right dirty talk and framing. Some people really love the idea of being so "inferior" to someone that they'll be forced to take their pee.
  • You Can Mark Your Territory: Taking a cue from some other mammals, peeing on something can feel a bit like "marking your territory". For some kinksters in the furry or primal communities, this can be the sole reason for engaging in watersports; it's a form of collaring.

Beginner-Friendly Ways to Explore Watersports

Curious about watersports? It's probably one of the cheapest kinks you can get into. It requires zero equipment, and you probably pee on a daily basis anyway. It's like the kink version of renewable energy!

First, a few tips for trying watersports for the first time:

  • Drink lots of water. We're talking about specifically water - not coffee or soda. Diluting your pee is going to make it a much more pleasant experience, and it's much easier to clean up afterwards if you accidentally get it somewhere you didn't intend.
  • Plan for clean up. Speaking of cleaning, plan for the mess that peeing is going to make. Not only do you have the resulting liquid, but you can expect a relatively large splash zone if you're going to be peeing on a body. This makes a shower or bath one of the easiest places to play.
  • Expect a shy bladder. When's the last time you were told to pee on command onto a waiting partner? Turns out, even for the most practiced of pee-ers, this can be a recipe for a shy bladder - and arousal can complicate that further. You both may need to practice in a non-sexual setting to help get over some of those first-time jitters before trying to make it the centerpoint of a scene.
  • Avoid the face. Especially if you're new, getting pee in the mouth can be an unpleasant surprise. Pee in the eyes can burn. Try to avoid the face entirely to avoiding adding something unpleasant to an otherwise great time.
Bonus tip: If you're going to be doing your watersports play in a shower or bath, run the shower on hot water for a bit before you get in there. Use it to coat the shower or tub. Not only does this make it likely that you'll have hot water promptly available when you're done to shower with, but it also prevents that chilly ceramic tub from killing the mood when you lay or kneel down.

Now, here are a few ways that you can try watersports for the first time:

  • Take a shower together. While still in the water of the shower, try peeing on one another. This makes for easy clean-up afterwards.
  • Take a shower together. This time, turn off the water when you plan on doing the peeing. This can make it easier to focus on the sensations of the golden shower instead of the shower water.
  • Have someone sit or lay in the bathtub or shower. Pee on them, using the shower's location for a quick shower and clean-up.
  • If you have access to a private outdoor space, consider a golden shower outside. Just make sure to plan for towels inside the house to make it safely to the shower to clean up!
  • Put down a waterproof blanket on a tiled/easy-to-clean floor. Someone can lay on top of it, and the other partner can squat or kneel next to their partner to pee on them. (Avoid peeing from a standing position to reduce the splash zone that will extend beyond your waterproof blanket.)
  • Intentionally challenge each other to drink as much water as comfortably (and safely!) possible to see who will need to pee the other first.

Are People Also Into Other Bodily Fluids?

People are turned on by a whole host of things, and that's just as true when it comes to bodily fluids. While pee (and golden showers!) is one of the most common versions, people might also be into be into brown showers (poop) or roman showers (vomit). The arousal factor is usually similar to what might get someone into watersports, and someone into watersports may be into these other kinks as well.

DelicateDani(sub trans woman){Yes}
This post really captures the essence of my subbie feelings when on the receiving end of piss play. I was shocked how much the first experience amplified that feeling of being in sub space. Now, it really turns me on so much to be on the receiving end.

It's deliciously degrading, the ultimate debasement, and by being "toileted," it ratchets up the humiliation factor to the max. Best way, if you have the time, and resources to build one or purchase one, is to actually rig up a toilet box, secure your sub's head inside (Arms locked to the sides) and do your buisness directly onto your sub's face and into its mouth.
