Sounds like you need to evaluate what you really want/need versus if he is the right guy for you. Not sure why one would say it’s disgusts him about the lifestyle. Remember there’s plenty of guys out there and if this one isn’t Mr. Right, then it’s good to know upfront the realizing it years later. But for better or worse, look within and see what you want for yourself and who you want to share yourself with. Your companion, should shore up the short comings and highlight your strengths.

I think the way you phrased your title says a lot about this. You say your desires are ruining your relationship, when it sounds more like this friend's misinformation is what's doing it. I'd put money down that he's told your boyfriend absolute nonsense about S&M.

Ultimately, this comes down to your boyfriend. If he's not willing to listen to you and what you have to say about it, then he's leaving you with a choice: him, or a chance at the relationship you want.
