A curious mind wants to know: Do a lot of men or women enjoy watching web cam people?

I had a sub who was considering becoming a webcam "model" (yes, that is actually what they are called) and this is what I can tell you -

It is for the most part very tame, at most it is light-core porn-ish but rarely much more than that, and being able to interact with other live people, not just the models themselves but the rest of the users present, isn't the most unseemly thing a person could do.

But there are 2 important points that this conversation seems to be overlooking:

1. It is not necessary to pay any money at all - to the site or the models or anyone else associated with it - in order to watch. In fact there are some models who do very explicit stuff, without charging a thing, yet are oftentimes paid by people so that they will *continue* doing all that explicit stuff. One could even call that a pretty clever tactic. In this case it effectively makes it a free show for everyone else.

2. As I understand it the models walk away with a very small percentage of the money generated by those users who do pay. The majority goes to the companies. So only the most popular models can actually make anything approaching a living from it. It can be an easy part-time job to make a little pocket change, but not lucrative in the slightest.

Which is why my former sub never did it. Just too much time, too little payoff.

To answer the OP personally I dont

I'm going to bet that based on the other responses here, it's just not a thing that the BDSM community is into, since they have much more exciting things to engage in or at least observe!

However, in the "vanilla" world, it's an exploding business. Honestly, all online small-fee based business models are doing well right now, from in-home workout services to cam girls etc.

It's not everybody's cup of tea, that's for sure, both in terms of consumption and creation. But it's definitely popular... Personally I like the idea behind the business model, at least, because it's a great way for individuals to say fuck the corporate system and make as much money as they can purely based on their personality and uniqueness...

This isn't my area but it something I have some knowledge on.
I disagree with the statement above that is NOT a BDSM community thing, that statement is a broad stroke.
It actually is and just might be a part of your world (Which I am assuming is Maledom M/fm) or shown on THIS site as it is against site rules (due to government legislation that makes site owners responsible for sex trafficking)
but the Femdom (F/mf) community is riffle with it. It is ..hmmm.... it is somewhat popular with male submissives as there is massive shortage of Dominant females but it is also the bane of a Male submissives life as "pay for play" cam girls and FinDomme are often very underhanded in finding clients. It is a needed service and works well when not ran in a covert manner.

On Alt.com you can broadcast yourself. Everyone has that right. But honestly I want to write to some and say, "Could you maybe clean up the room next time? Or shave? Or look the least bit interested in the fact that you've got your dangly bits in the blender?

I don't go out of my way to see it. Have never paid for it. Never will.

On Alt it is at the bottom so you see it as you move past. If only they mad soap that didn't sting...just sayin

I have a friend on the other side of the world. We had a friends with benefits relationship for a time and we would pleasure ourselves on cam pretty regularly. It was a lot of fun and I think it helped because we friends for some time. That being said I don't get that same thrill from cam girls myself. Hmmm... I wonder if that identifies me as Demisexual? Something to think about.

Many men and women love a good cam show. I've cammed years ago and I've watched a couple fuck buddies cam (in real life out of view). I've gained insight into why people love it. I've also watched cams, but i'd mostly watch how everyone interacted. it's not my thing these days.

I wouldn't pay for a camming site, because of my ego but I'd never look down on someone else for paying or following.

They can be enticing in sexual and non sexual ways. You can acquire the misconception that you've gained sexual and social dominance over a woman or man others covet and gain the ego and serotonin boost. You can be left under the impression that women (maybe men also I'm not sure) on there care deeply about who you are as a human, they ask the guys about their days and lives and all that. I don't think it's any more desperate to pay someone to pretend than it is to be attached to a man or woman in real life who is pretending and not meeting your needs or "requirements" . And many many pretend. I know because most of the women I've hooked up with in the past were dating or married some guy they laughed about how they were pretending with. All while I pretended with the women in question.

The people who get into it are not always desperate:likewise, the people who don't join are not always gratified and fulfilled. In reality there is only negligibly miniscule portion of society who truly get exactly what they want from exactly who they want to give it, at ANY point in their lives. Most don't and never will. Not the people on cam sites, not the people off cam sites

Never got into it, either watching or making a cam presentation, but my first impression of the more "naughty" cam sessions available out there, it's a safe and legal way to be an exhibitionist. The old way of stripping down and standing in a window visible to many places-- can get one a visit from the cops and worse, a morals charge. Bad scene.. so cam it up and those who "tune in" obviously can't complain.

I get that. A private engagement with someone you care about, that can be great fun. Our exhibitionist side, a lot of us have it in us.

Thank you all for some really great feedback and personal thoughts on it. icon_smile.gif

i had a similar thought. i can see this as a BDSM kink. To me, the lack of physical contact could be used as a form of bondage or edging?

i think there are some who gravitate toward porn who might want/need/use the added component of interaction, with the 'protection' of not actually being with the person in the flesh. i can see lots of reasons one could use that to overcome insecurities about appearance for one example.

BDSM can involve a lot of experimentation or utilization of the senses:touch, taste, visual, scent, hearing. This takes control of the sense of touch and scent away from the performer. Even the volume can be controlled by the watcher.

The one big component that is missing is touch. Still, restriction of one or some senses, enhancing the others, is a not uncommon BDSM practice.

I never thought of that but it really makes a lot of sense.
Actually a lot of it can be a type of psychological torture?

Sometimes it can be enjoyable but.... it is sooooo much more satisfying to "be" the webcam actor!!!!
