Afternoon everyone
I’m currently doing some reading on old school protocols and traditions

I’m interested in finding out what old school protocols to you took part in or were relevant in your part of the world when you first started your journey

I’m interested to hear especially if they are not practiced so much within the lifestyle nowadays

I’d love to hear from those across the different countries and cultures

Are there aspects you miss or aspects you are glad that have moved , grown developed etc

I've heard that to earn your 'Leather' as a Master you used to have to train and learn how to be a sub/ slave before being able to call yourself a Master. I know a guy that did that for 5 years.

This is very true
From my reading research and talking to people the time span varies but it was very common for a new D to “sub” and learn the ropes from an established master

the procedures and ways differ slightly from area to area

Protocol was trained out by each Dom or Master.
Ranging from high , medium, low

High being what I would have known “ Full service”

Basics . As the list would vary dependant on requirements of the D/M

sub.

No eye contact
No speaking unless spoken to
No interaction unless allowed
2 steps behind inless allowed
Full drinks service as required
Sexual service as directed

List goes on

But I can offer more detail if required.

I suggest you look for articles written by Guy Baldwin.

Guy Baldwin's experience is illuminating, and cuts through much of the bull shit and mythology some like to spin about this. In particular that it was some sort of unified movement, which it wasn't. It was disparate, varied from city to city, club to club, bar to bar. He was there and lived it unlike many, particularly straight folk who like to pontificate about it, who were not. There was no one way, one set of protocols, one way of doing things etc, unlike how some like to try and spin it.

I would stick to highly regarded, well known, genuine published writers on this subject, and they are not to be found on the cage. Actual relevant leather experience, and by that I mean LGBTQ+ experience is absent from here, as to my knowledge there are no 70 + year old gay leather men as members.
