The thing is the moderation here is quiet.

I mean really quiet.

Users here have to remember that Cage is based outside the United States. Those that do the moderation live outside the US. There is a culture difference on how moderation is handled.

I've been dinged twice: Once on a blog, second on a forum post. The blog get me an email telling me it was taken down and the forum post just vanished with no communication. I figured I deserved both, so never questioned it.

I also know two people who have had blog posts removed cuz someone was "offended". What it really was the people who complained didn't like what they read for a political reason. In both cases, the blogs were restored after review and I believe one of the people who complained got their wee wee smacked (in a non consenting way).

Now this crap about "what's hot" popularity contest is one of the reasons Fet is the stinking cesspool it is today. Their Kinky & Popular used to have interesting photos about Real D/s and stories and blog posts. Now it is shit filled influencer bullshit where S&M means Stand & Model.

We already have the forum posts that rotate due to latest reply, but leave the fucking blogs alone.

You want people to read your blog? Work at it and post once a day.

You really want people to read your blog? QUIT FUCKING USING A BASIC BLACK FONT!

My intent is not to focus on what makes a popular or successful blog but rather what would facilitate discussion on this platform without what I am at least viewing as an exploitation of the rules.

I am also inclined to agree that popularity based blogs may lead to to the arguably negative mirroring of fetlifes influence based community. However logically I think that is a slippery slope fallacy. There isn't a logical conclusion that things must end that way, or that there is nothing which could prevent that. The filter being set to "new" blogs by default would be a minor tool to prevent this by putting new blogs in front of users first and foremost.

And again, I'm only advocating for the OP level of moderation that blogs have. I don't care if its blogs, or a new page called the cracker diaries. I aim to keep the ongoing and rolling discussion facet that the I find valuable in the forums without the aspect of others censoring what one person or a group of people wish to talk about.

Top quote truncated to get to the fart of the matter...

I'll hazard a guess that T D's got a hard on for fonts...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Other than that, yes Cage originated in Israel (in 03 but went international mid 2010s for those who didn't take the Cageiology class) and still is headquartered there last I saw, but one of the admins lists its location as Canada so there isn't too much of a culture gap across the board.. They're just non-intrusive in the moderation but trust me (Solace knows!!!) I got sent to stand in the proverbial corner--- justifiably-- for a post I wrote in mid-2023 when I had a bit of a crisis going on and went way off the rails...

So yes, they keep an eye on the forums as well as the blogs and also depend on reports by other users that are valid and not temper tantrums akin those who like to block everything on 2 legs (Dudes have a middle leg, but that don't count) if they don't like what they post-- but that's a thing that's already on another thread somewhere in the bowels of the forums.

As to 2nd quoted post... Yeah you're right, guy. But above all else, Online sites where people interact directly on a forum board or blog , be they for twisted folks or not,-- are populated by humans and "getting along and being reasonable" has been an issue since the stone age when dudes learned how to make clubs and hit each other in the head with them.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

So, anyway... I wrote that I'll never write a blog.. well never say never I guess... I think I might just start one , call it not "Cracker Diaries" but "Cracked Diaries"--- although "Crack Diaries" might be in the running as it would be written with a smile... AND I would not only put it in Basic Black letters but the smallest font I can use and still read what the fuck I wrote.

I think 10-Pt Georgia would be just gnarly

For context, my view on the forums:
Discussions can become personal attacks easily. Then other experiences and different walks in life get dismissed and if someone feels in the right, they are ok to assassin the complete character with assumptions that fit the narrative and circular arguments begin. Discussion shifts from exchanging ideas to making a stand.

In some posts this lead to a mentality that:
Making minor mistakes or being uninformed? - Unaccaptable.
Not being the best articulator? - We have to leave behind some people.
An out of context word triggered you? - How dare you not know the inner turmoil.
You do not agree? - Are you even human?

In summary:
The topics on here can be very personal. It very important and good to call out questionable opinions. Unfortunatelly, some seem to get a raise out of baiting others. On the other side, some have taken it upon themselves to crusade topics dear to their heart forgetting their heart in the process.

A possible "solution":
While wrist slapping feels like a good first response, it is most likely hard to implement in practice except for very obvious cases.

Sometimes I wonder if it would be helpful to limit the number of responses you can do on a forum post to 3 in total? Or get one possible response unlocked after every 1 week? This way, you have to make your reply count (even OP).

The "limit posts to (example of 3) per week"--- might seem to work, but overall it's a form of control I do not think would be acceptable.

Many in here engage in healthy back and forth and limiting numbers of posts There will always be bad apples on every site such as this, Farcebook, Fet, etc. , unfortunately and to slap controld and quotas won't solve anything.

The solution I use (most of the time. I have my moments) for my own peace of mind is when a forum thread starts to look and smell like a steaming pile of dogshit, I click off such a thread never to return.

By walking away, so to speak, any and all bad apples or aggressive talkers will get the "satisfaction" of having "the last word"--- but MY satisfaction is their last word falls on virtual deaf ears.

In summary, individuals are their own and best best censor, and while everyone is entitled to their opinion , everyone has the right to disregard and discard any opinions they choose to flush down the digital crappe, and move on rather than rely on a "site government" to fix everything.

Best advice I read elsewhere: "Don't Feed the Trolls". They'll get bored and go talk out of their asses somewhere else.

I would agree with Miki on this.
If I should become unhappy with were the topic is going, I just ignore it and come back later.

If clicking off is the best strategy, and I'm inclined to agree, shouldn't we politely request the devs to not close forums and let them figure themselves out?

That would be nice, but some threads I have seen over my almost 7 years in here had devolved into all-out donnybrooks beyond salvage: Violations of TOS rules, common decency and all that. At that point, closing a thread is the only way to keep this or any site from becoming like the wild west... or worse, a malevolent "Caveman's Crib".

Also, as I wrote a couple posts ago, those who participated responsibly in a thread that got locked can always start another one along the same lines. I've seen that done successfully before. Plus though a given thread gets locked, they aren't deleted-- unless the whole topic is toxic from Jump. Clearly objectionable posts do get deleted and the authors notified via email and in cases of nasty name calling the writer gets a "time out".

If you are going to limit forum posts on 3 per week, then the forums are going to be more dead than they are now. Those things sometimes don't move for days at a time.

This is more "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of shit.

I half agree.

The whole car isn't broken just because the AC cuts in and out. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like better AC in the summer.

TD is right... Can't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Solace.. my first car was a 95 Tercel... It didn't have A/C... and a manual transmission... I averaged 40 mpg (mostly highway) I rolled down the windows.
