Some people deserve to be ghosted. Sometimes the people complaining about getting ghosted are the ones doing the behaviors that get them ghosted. Being an asshole is going to get the person ghosted. The respondent wasn't being rude by ghosting. It's the natural consequence of unacceptable behavior.

If you ghost someone, are you the ghost disappearing off to the shadowy nethers? Or are they the ghost, left between two worlds?

I'm wondering who the ghostbusters are here to bust?

What we really need is a team of highly trained and heavily armed scientist-nerds going around busting the Stay-Puff Marshmallow versions of insta-doms who rampage the site crushing and destroying everything in their path.

I’m not making a reference to anyone in specific nor am I saying that I’ve been ghosted. Mostly I’m just trying bring about some rigorous discussion because this seems to be a common experience among all kinds of people on this site for a variety of reasons. I’d like to know how people think about this subject.

I can certainly appreciate the sentiment of this statement and value the validity of this counterpoint, there is plenty of room for the pros and cons on both sides.

I personally don't see any fault in just drifting off and doing other things rather than replying to a message from someone you aren't interested in. If someone stops replying, I just assume they weren't serious or that they have other things to do or just aren't that interested in me. I don't automatically assume they're a bad person--which is what I see a lot of people assuming when someone stops communicating. Just take the hint and move on. It really isn't that big of a deal.

I thought it was the memories, silent, or vanished profiles, once wonderfully live personalities that inhabited the blog space, forums and lobby was the topic. Those that breathed and thought, shared experiences and knowledge, who were kind, paying it forward, whos magic and energy enriched here, many of whos words are enshrined in my bond and pm convos.

Their ghosts haunt, bringing smiles, joy over lovely moments, or tears, sadness over failed, or what if, what might have been encounters, or just their lost wisdom.

Cage is haunted by their ghosts, in general, and many haunt me.

I raise a glass to all who no longer grace here with their amazing, lovely personhood, who no longer call here home, I miss you all - 1

1 - not talking about the horrible ones - others mileage may vary - who I do not miss.

I read the OP that way too. Many drift off when they find what came here for (some come back when it doesn't work out) Some drift off, flitting around all the sites endlessly trying to find what they want rather than put in the efforts required on the few sites that do work . People's needs from sites vary. Some want a sense "community" others want a "dating site" or "hook ups" Remember the old saying YMMV before we judge icon_smile.gif

I raise a glass too (ok a coffee cup it's my AM) I do hope their dreams got met and their life is filled with happiness. They all know if they spent any decent amount of time HERE that it can be HOME if they need it or just a port in a storm for awhile.
