Delrin (also known as Acetal) is a great choice for this. It's a very durable plastic, with decent shock tolerance (slight flexibility, but maintains shape and stiffness) and a high load tolerance.
It's used for manufacturing all kinds of things, in industry, that require durability and toughness without brittleness. I've used it to make fighting sticks (think escrima or kali, Filipino stick fighting arts) and it's extremely resilient for hard stick-on-stick impacts. It makes an excellent SM cane.
If you search for "delrin bdsm cane" on Google you'll find several makers, there's lots on Etsy, all different thickness and lengths, from thin (sting-y) to thick (thuddy).

The only thing better would be Molybdenum-Disulfide injected 6/6 Nylon, for making a caning tool... It's equally stiff but more flexible and deals with being flexed by impact even better than Delrin... nlbut I'm not aware of anyone making such. You can buy rod stock from industrial suppliers like McMaster-Carr, and make your own though. Same for Delrin, honestly.

Dragon Cane is my go to, but lots of people like kooboo which is a bit lighter, rattan is also a possibility.

Bamboo is not suitable, it's brittle, too rigid and can break in away that will cut skin very badly, best avoided.

Strip an old couch. There's straight metal rods in very specific places. I use one of such rods as a cane. It doesn't bend or rust
