I think having a fetish for something has more focus on someone or something. For example being hyper focused on the pretty fully clothed redhead while the beautiful naked blond pleases herself on a road cone goes completely unnoticed.

Kink has a broader focus and a wider range of of non traditional sexual interests the deviate from the sexual norm. What is the sexual norm I have no clue one persons kink is another persons Tuesday night

Dictionary definitions:

fetish: a form of sexual desire in which gratification is strongly linked to a particular object or activity or a part of the body other than the sexual organs.

Kinkiness involves sexual practices, concepts, or fantasies that deviate from what is typically considered "vanilla" or mainstream sexual behavior.

I sometimes feel that we don't get enough insightful questions like these in the forums anymore.

When I first started, I felt there was a great deal of helpful discussion in the forums. I read avidly, and feel it helped me a great deal. I don't quite feel that same way as of late. Could be an early sunset of age coming on.

However , to this day I think I've had the terms kink and fetish muddled in my head. Many seem to use the interchangeably. This was helpful to me.

Thank you for asking it.

Keep it coming please.

a "sexual" kink is a want, kink is a sexual preference. A kink is anything that both falls outside of the typical boundaries of what society has deemed “normal” sexually and is arousing. But keep in mind what is kink to one is normal to others.

A sexual fetish is a have to have, in order to function. Sexual arousal doesn't happen without the fetish. No fetish, no function, no interest without it. A fetish must be present for someone to experience pleasure.

Sometimes the distinction is defined as the difference between a need (fetish) versus a preference (kink) for example I have fetishes, I need those in order to feel fulfilled and stated with play/sex/scenes. I do not function without them!

Some examples: I have a fetish for miniskirts and boots. Basically, certain styles of dress. Other people have a fetish for leather. Basically, it's a desire for a THING.

A KINK is a desire for an ACTIVITY. A "Verb." I have a kink involving being paddled and/or spanked, or forced to lick a pair of boots. Or, any other number of activities.
