My response is quite off topic from the original question but I thoroughly enjoyed contemplating my notions of submission, where they come from and what texts deepen my understanding.

My associations are very abstract, so they don’t necessarily come from a place of BDSM.

I know you said literature but

For me, the film ‘Secretary’ aptly conveys the beauty, pain, playfulness, devotion, vulnerability, mental state and transformation of such a journey.

The silence and tension is pronounced. The end monologue is what got me:

"Each cut, each scar, each burn, a different mood or time. I told him what the first one was. I told him where the second one came from. I remembered them all. And for the first time in my life, I felt beautiful. Finally part of the earth. I touched the soil, and he loved me back."

In my understanding, it is alluding to more than just a dominant represented in body, but the divine connection of living, listening, releasing, giving and receiving.

Other collected understandings of concepts and inspiration that come to mind:

The film ‘Amelie’
Love, wonder, little, gifting and receiving, beauty, the extraordinary in simplicity

Film ‘Moonrise Kingdom’
Journeying, guided, trust, adventure, beauty, nature, resourcefulness, authenticity, connection, innocence/intuition/wisdom

“Women Who Run with the Wolves” Book
Attunement, alignment, intuition, the soul song, devotion to the Other and Self, the importance of rituals and returning to the ‘River Beneath the River’, La Loba (The Bone Collector), seeing beyond, knowing, discipline and restraint, temperance, how to listen and hear “messages from the deep”

Which brings me to

Dune - Book
Training, harnessing power, respect, humility, devotion, responsibility, duty, grounding

Thanks for the reflection prompt.

My favorite book was also. Nine and a Half Weeks: A Memoir of a Love Affair by Elizabeth McNeill. It was a gift from my first dom, a first edition,
with his chicken scratch on the first page. It read" For my brat, Love, Daddy. When I was twenty. I picked it up and read it cover to cover in two days. Thirty years later, it's still in my nightstand drawer. Along with some other lifestyle books. like "Come Hither," "Different Loving," and "The Loving Dominant."
All fantastic lifestyle books, which I would highly recommend.

Oh MAN!!!!! There are a TON!!!!! Here's detailed reviews of five good ones I have recently enjoyed, especially on AUDIO!!!!!

1. "The Marriage Games" (Book 1) by C.D. Reiss

Vibe Check: Ever wondered if your 'perfect' spouse secretly craves kink? The Marriage Games rips open a marriage where a Dom has been stifling his true nature, only to have his wife uncover his secret. Now he’s got 30 days to unleash his inner Dominant, and then their marriage is over.

Why it's a Must-Listen (and a Masterclass in Dom Perspective): This book offers a rare, deep dive into a Dominant's perspective, proving a submissive can truly complete that dynamic without an ounce of 'ick.' It's a discerning exploration of roles and needs, where genuine connection thrives through embracing all facets of desire. Watch Adam finally be his authentic self; it's a masterclass in ethical BDSM.

Why it works as a duet: Sebastian York’s authoritative Dom tone as Adam is pure perfection, embodying that powerful, yearning Dominant. Elena Wolfe masterfully intellectualizes submission, bringing Diana’s transformation to vivid life. This duet lets you truly inhabit both sides of the power exchange, making the emotional and sexual revelations incredibly impactful.

2. "Deep End" by Ali Hazelwood

Vibe Check: Confession: Ali Hazelwood usually isn't my jam, but the BDSM buzz around Deep End dragged my skeptical ass right in. Our D1 swimmer heroine comes with clear #ND characteristics and serious dynamics that kept me hooked. It’s a challenge that surprisingly pays off.

Why it's a Must-Listen (and a Masterclass in Consent): This book is a masterclass in consent, tackling partner needs, clear discussions, and firm limits in a way you rarely see. Scarlett’s #ND journey into BDSM, guided by Lukas, makes this book shine as she explores her true desires. Ali Hazelwood's treatment of D/s here is simply golden, surprising even my discerning nervous system.

Why it works as a duet: A story this focused on internal processes and nuanced power exchanges screams for a duet. The narration amplifies every conversation about needs and limits, immersing you in Scarlett's BDSM journey and emotional landscape. You'll feel her intellectual and emotional transformation as she dives into desire's 'deep end'.

3. "Seeing Sound" by Albany Walker

Vibe Check:Seeing Sound hits different, with profound resonance; it isn't dripping with my usual explicit spice. Our #ND heroine, Waverly, hears voices and finds her #ReverseHarem in Memphis, Oswald, and Bates.

Why it's a Must-Listen (and a Masterclass in Regulation): This book offers a #MasterclassInRegulation, exploring #HeavyD/s where men act as protectors and regulators against an #Ableist mother. It’s a raw, unvarnished look at how chosen connection and intentional control create a vital safe space. For #NDRep in dynamics, this is a powerful read.

Why it works as a duet: Duet narration is non-negotiable for a story where the FMC hears voices and reality shifts. The dual performance makes Waverly's internal world incredibly immersive, enhancing emotional tension. You feel the collective presence and protective embrace of her chosen dynamics.

4. "Across State Lines" by Lauren Biel

Vibe Check: Want #NeurodivergentKink that punches you in the gut? Across State Lines is a deep dive into DID through Kane, our long-haul, interstate serial killer MMC. When our damaged heroine hitchhikes into his world, Kane and his alters (yes, #ReverseHarem!) recognize a beautifully broken kindred spirit.

Why it's a Must-Listen (and a Glorious Trip into the Abyss): This isn't just dark; it's morally black, utterly compelling, and Kane regularly picks up women and kills them. Watch Aurora navigate Kane's distinct alters (Kane, Jax, Tobin) to find connection and twisted understanding. Prepare for #PraiseKink, #Degradation, #Masochism, #PrimalPlay, #DaddyKink, and #Somnophilia.

Why it works as a duet: Teddy Hamilton delivers a stellar performance, paired with Michelle Sparks, making duet narration non-negotiable here. Hearing Kane's alters (Kane, Jax, Tobin) in distinct voices is crucial for complex character dynamics and multi-personality intimacy. This creates complete immersion and palpable psychological intensity.

5. "The Promises We Break" by Berlin Wick

Vibe Check: This book starts with a chaotic "wake up married in Vegas" and then drops you into a surprisingly ethical kink journey with twists you won't see coming. Ember, an ad exec for a kink company, asks Hudson for help learning kink. Expect familial drama and beautifully executed ethical BDSM with "regular" folks.

Why it's a Must-Listen (and a Masterclass in Ethical Kink):The Promises We Break delivers a refreshingly ethical dive into kink exploration where consent and communication are paramount. Hudson's "TOP TEIR DOM BEHAVIOR" empowers Ember to step into her Domme energy—even pushing him to the prostate plug in the epilogue! Expect hot #FemDom, #AnalPlay, #SexClubs, and profound containment.

Why it works as a duet: Grayson Owens and Branden Davis-Butler deliver an organically blended duet, making motivations and ethical exploration feel personal. Their voices bring understanding to Ember's journey from avoiding relationships to embracing her Domme self, and Hudson's compassionate leading. The strip club scene where Hudson scrambles to connect with Ember is a standout moment.
