I personally think fetishes are... not at all uncommon nor unhealthy, and are unique and personal to each individual,. But they are complicated from a relationship standpoint. My own experience with the people I know (Based on what I have heard them express) is that most "Vanilla" people look down on fetishes with varying degrees of negativity, in some cases severe. So sadly I don't think it is something that is necessarily gaining acceptance. For instance, I am hugely turned on by boot worship, along with a few other things I don't feel like sharing right now. How would my romantic partner feel about me wanting to worship her boots? In most cases, she'd probably be a little weirded out by it. This is the problem I run into with the dating scene; you gotta suppress that kind of stuff. (And the 'Things I dont feel like sharing right now" are generally even more extreme than that.)
But because I do have these fetishes, I do try and be respectful of others with different kinks and fetishes than me, just like I would hope for the same respect and understanding. Yes, there are certain things I don't really vibe with but again... to each their own. |
