The new Mail system

While I really like it and you did a nice thing by changing how the delete function works, there is one small problem for me:

I find that when dealing with a long email chain, having to scroll to the bottom each time with a new message is rather annoying. Is there a switch I am missing where the new messages come out on top or can it be changed so that happens?

Is this going to be a premium feature?

Doesn't look like it is. It has replaced the original mail system so unless Free Members can't use the mail system any more, it would be available to anyone.

I'm glad to hear your like the upgrade!
The natural order of reading is from top to bottom so it makes sense to read the messages in chronological order and not the other way around.
It takes some time getting used to when making the switch from the existing mail system, however the screen should be auto focused at the bottom so most recent messages should be before your eyes without having to scroll.

The new mailbox is released gradually and eventually will reach everyone. Premium users get early access.

Yeah maybe for European readers but US based email systems are set up for the latest message on top and then people can scroll down to remind themselves what was being said. Having to read the entire thread or scroll down the entire thread is fairly annoying.

How long is the old system going to available?

Topeka's right on that point. I'm also used to new messages on top. Older missives that I don't purge I only use for reference.

The new system won't affect me very much as I zap all older messages once I know I won't need them anymore, but for those who don't, the need to scroll down for the latest and the greatest can be a pain in the ass.

One solution would be a sorting option, "Newest First/ Oldest First" "Cheapest First".. and so forth.

...well, the latter applies in Marketplace of course, but you get my drift

Is there a way to jump to the first message or navigate through the "pages" of a message thread? What about searching a particular thread instead of your whole inbox?

Just a word from the peanut gallery: There's probably a way to search for specific material but I haven't looked for it.

As for quick-finding new shit, where I work anyway, I'd give my renown smart-ass Helpless Desk response,

In this case, scrolling becomes impractical. Messages only go so far back before you have to "load older messages". And then having to do that again and again if the message thread is extensive enough is annoying and impractical to do given today's messaging technology.

The old mail system did not have any search feature to speak of. This one seems to have a general search feature that searches all threads. Which, again, I've been on this site for over 5 years and have had many conversations with many people. Scrolling through everything again becomes impractical.

The old mail system had much wanting, but it did have a mechanism for going back to the first message relatively easily. This one seems to lack that feature.

That's why I switched back to Regular Flavor

I suppose they'll switch to the New Formula exclusively soon enough, but for now, why voluntarily experience even virtual hemorrhoids?
