Legacy Accounts

SirsBabyDoll(sub female){🍕+☕}Verified Account • May 27, 2025
So today I learned that someone I THOUGHT had arrived after I did, was in fact what I call a "Legacy Account": an account that had been active in the beginning and received a lifetime premium membership.

It gave me an idea. I would like to suggest that Legacy accounts be given some sort of identifier ex: a unique frame around their avatar? A symbol next to their name (similar to the "verified" symbol).

I don't want our Legacy members to be under recognized. They should stand out a bit more than the rest of us. Anyone can be premium, but it takes a special person to be a Legacy member!

Not sure if I qualify or not, here since 2017, but I am not sure just being here a long time, means much.

Recently at an event, in person, one of my newish friends said because of my age, and being active in my local kink scene for 15ish years that made me one of the local old guard. I had never thought of myself as that, nor do I really want to, being old, and active for a while, does that really count for much? I don't think so, and to my mind, based on prior experience with old guard people, people I feel qualify for that, many have been gatekeepers, moaning about how we didn't do that back in the day, modern bdsm, isn't real bdsm, and who do these young ones think they are. That sort of attitude doesn't sit well with me, and I don't think of myself in those terms, as a gatekeeper - maybe others do.

For myself, and others mileage will vary, highlighting, marking out, sort of creates a them and us vibe, and I don't think that's helpful.

That's the only reason I have Premium to be coldly honest and the reason I signed up in the first place.

I found this site completely by accident, doing a Google search on the long ago original Star Trek pilot episode named "The Cage" and this site was the first hit down the pike as it were. When I read about it I was intrigued and decided to have a look. That and " The First "X" people to sign up receive a complimentary, non-expiring membership as our thanks"--- and I signed up Nov 30, 2017 so I'd guess anyone before the end of the year received the incentive.

But in short, anyone who is Premium and doesn't get billed for it and signed up back when "The Cage" could have been referred to as "The Cave" -- is a "legacy" member.

-------

As for "recognition" for being on here this long...... Meh..... Whatever scoops one's ice cream I guess.

As it is I had to ask them if they could make birthday badges on a profile optional because speaking for myself anyway, it's nobody's business.

I know all about that. Have since I signed up. I don't care about the age listing, I just don't want the specific day shown when it happens. There is a difference.

Yeah, when I think of all the updates that Cage has done, and what I think should be updated, this is not something I think is fairly important.

I use the verified is a better metric than how long they have been on Cage.

Not sure why it would be necessary to point out legacy members, and tbh I don’t want to have to have the same conversation over and over again in chat if people recognise somehow that something is different to what they have. Then there’s the awkward expectations of having to meet some kind of criteria that some may place on those people… simply from having been here for a while. In all honesty I feel it could even possibly make targets of legacy members.
Whilst I do understand where you’re coming from, and it’s a nice thought, it’s not an appealing concept to me personally.

As a refugee after Craigslist closed there personals down, looking for a new home. A new website, free sign-up, good group of people, never expected to be grandfathered in for life and being the original “Mr Cheap Bastard” how could I say no. As to the recognition of being a “legacy user” is secondary to me.
