Out of curiosity, in what way would that make the site better?
you would have more people on the site more people intereacting and more people liking the site overall since they would be able to message.
I'm my opinion, "more" is not necessarily better. Better is better. While I can see areas in which The Cage can improve, none of them have to do with getting more people on the site. There are already a lot of members, and I'll bet only 10% or less are active. Having more members doesn't necessarily equate to more people interacting, and even if it did, I have no desire for The Cage to turn into Fet.
As for messaging, you don't have to be a member to message someone. Now, I will admit that Bond is a more convenient and aesthetically pleasing way of messaging, but it's not entirely necessary.
Personally, I agree with the other posters. The cost of membership is minimal for most adults. Having some fee is reasonable. It helps to keep spammers and children (I hope!) from engaging here. Additionally, one shouldn't expect to get something for nothing. This community and the technology necessary to keep it up and running comes at a cost to someone, and it's sensible that the cost be shared among those involved.
I've yet to see anything validating the idea that The Cage is broken, and even if I accepted that it was, the most likely way to "fix" any problems would be to increase the fee, not get rid of it. I'm more than grateful that it only costs what it does.
