Jumping through hoops and looking for loopholes to skirt around the unenviable situation someone might find themselves in is avoidance. I'd not concern myself over a casual acquaintance (as I've mentioned), but I would for a friend I care about. The trick is to evaluate the "hows" in broaching the subject - with one or the other of the two people involved. No one wants to hurt a friend emotionally but standing back and letting their partner potentially do it is a disservice to them as well. We can't always stand aside and equivocate when faced with difficult choices. I hate going to the dentist too, but it's not healthy to let a festering tooth continue to decay. |
