Loss - we all experience it throughout our lives. Losing a play partner/partner is always a tragedy.
Losing them to disease can be expected as we age, losing them due to our ignorance is just as Bad.
I recall about 45 years ago, I had a woman contact me on an AOL chat page and we began to talk. I was then a young Dom and had my ideas, likes, fetishes, and fantasies.
My issue was I was still young and somewhat inexperienced and so was she. I did listen to her ideas, and we spoke about her desires before we chose a day to play. My ignorance and lack of knowledge of people with latex allergies almost got me into trouble. While she dressed in a latex straitjacket, her demeanor changed rapidly and she broke out in hives. Having had some medical experience while in the army I quickly recognized the allergic reaction and got her out of the jacket quickly, gave her a Benadryl pill and an orange juice drink, and ended the play. I feared that I would have to take her to hospital, but her hives quickly went away in about 15 minutes. She had NO idea that she had such an allergy. Although I tried to convince her to try again, she would not play with me again.

Today I am much more educated and cognisant of such mishaps and keep Benadryl, and even Epipen auto-injector handy as one never knows!
