As I am late to this party, I can see that reading through this thread that the comments have ebbed and flowed as they always seem to do when today’s politics are brought up. What started off as a real question (no matter how “dumb” some thought it) has now reached the point of the current standbys that can be found in any discussion board or social media comment section. “Fake News”, “You’re Wrong, I’m Right”, “You took what I said out of context”, Snowflake, liberal, neo-Nazi, Trump supporter (or anti-supporter), anti-Obama, and of course the rest of the “insert other stupid or silly name calling or comment crap.

First off, to the OP. I always “love”, (when I say love, I mean WTF) when someone starts a post they know is a bomb just waiting to go off, when a post starts off along the lines of “I am not trying to be political” or “I’m not going to talk politics” but then starts a political discussion. That is just like me saying, “I am not going to ask your opinion, but Coca Cola or Pepsi?” I have found that when someone says that, it is just there way of giving themselves a BS excuse to, at some point, say “Hey I didn’t want to talk about this. It’s not my fault this discussion is going on”. At least own it that you wanted this discussion. If you didn’t you wouldn’t have started it and added that tagged “I don’t talk politics” line.

Second, as some have said, choosing not to get into a relationship with someone who has a different political view is completely reasonable. I mean, read a profile and if it’s okay for people to say things like: no blood, no body fluids, wax, etc. Is it really out of the realm of possibilities that political views could be a factor for people? Aren’t there people here looking for something else besides an one-night/session type of thing? Isn’t it important to know what and how a potential future partner (or more) thinks and feels about something as important as political viewpoints?

While I am sure there are some profiles that mean it, I do not think that the majority of the people who post “pro-trump or anti-trump” in their limits are saying that they will not talk to someone with that view point. I think it rather means that they will not form a D/s or other serious relationship with someone with that viewpoint. After all those relationships are based on trust and understanding and if this thread is any proof, today’s political pot is boiling over all over the place. In today’s political pot, we have all been tossed, turned, and whipped into a frenzy. Even the smallest thing tends to rage out of control.

OP, you have just as much right to your own opinions and thoughts - about anything. But so does everyone who voiced their own opinions against it. It is as much their right as it is yours. Just like it is your right to have a different opinion to theirs.

Everyone who is attacking her for her own opinions. No matter how different they are, they are hers and she has just as much right to them as you do to yours. The nice thing about that old Bill of Rights and that First Amendment, it protects everyone's right to their own opinions. And for the record, I am a left-leaning moderate and classify myself as an Independent. Extreme views on either side are dangerous. Nothing ever gets done. It’s all about beating the other side today and there is no longer compromise and working for what is good for the general population. Both sides are guilty of this.

Soulweaver, and any other veteran, thank you for your service. I am very thankful for your service and appreciate the freedoms that you have defended along with your brothers and sisters in the services. Your insights and opinions carry a lot of weight with me since you did put it on the line. Again, thank you very much.

In the end, no one is going to change the other person’s mind. That much is clear. But can we at least agree that everyone has the right to their own opinion and leave it at that. Do we really need this to continue and just turn into an all out mud slinging contest? Do not lower yourselves to the level you feel the other side is. Be the bigger person and step back and agree to disagree.

Yes as the OP I will take full responsibility for this post and hope that the above comment ends this thread.

Though I was concerned that people were being "judged" by profiles saying that, which is why I brought it up. Not to stir trouble but to say hey that's a judgment of a person without knowing them. Please explain.

I probably should have let it be.

I hope again this ends this and I am sorry for words I have said in anger.

Sweet November,

I will say that yes it is a judgement of a person, but no more than when one says they are pro-life or pro-choice, or vegan vs meat eater, pro or anti 420. People's choices and opinions are all things that make a person who they are.

It may not seem fair, and it probably isn't to judge one on their opinions, but we do and we also tend to form groups and relationships based on them. We all want to be around people we feel comfortable with and feel share the same opinions as we do.

This is why people list their limits - no matter how right, wrong, or indifferent others may see them.

A woman in a hot air balloon realizes she is lost. She lowers her altitude and spots a man fishing from a boat below. She shouts to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consults his portable GPS and replies, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolls her eyes and says, "You must be a Republican!"

"I am," replies the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answers the balloonist, "everything you tell me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you're not much help to me."

The man smiles and responds, "You must be a Democrat."

"I am, replies the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well," says the man, "You don't know where you are or where you're going. You've risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and now you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault."

Brunette. Perhaps you are not aware of it. You studied college for four years, congratulations, but nobody really gives a damn. In a number of places you said don't challenge me because I know the facts. ie there can be no debate.
In examining these high-handed attitudes, one can't help but see similarities between you and what you see going on in politics. You're a teacher right? So there is a 90% chance you're brainwashed as well. Because you're a teacher you feel inherently superior. That certainly comes across and fits with your professional profile.
Next thing you be telling me that the climate change has settled science
The free speech is wonderful, after all you believe in the Constitution, right up until someone disagrees with you and then you qualify that is hate speech and therefore has to be banned.
I don't know but I suspect that's the sort of person you are.
There are people out there, I'm sure you're not one of them because you're so superior to the rest of us. After all you have all of the facts, and education in all of us adults are really like 10-year-olds to you.
But all that stuff levelled against Trump, is hate speech if ever there was any. It's vile disgusting in many cases. Most of it is lies.
The fact that he will end up being one of the best presidents your country haas ever had, is testimony to how bad your politicians have become.
Don't feel bad, I don't knock America like well you do. You remarked about your history and your failures. You didn't really champion individual freedom, liberty the amazingly radical experiment it was to protect individual rights against the government. To arm ordinary citizens to protect themselves from tyranny.
You're so busy getting caught up in the world went of socialism and change. Christ sake change to what? More government, more tax, more rules, less freedom of speech, less economic freedom, less income, more wars.
Nobody acknowledges what drug was achieved in dialing down war.
I hope you enjoy watching CNN and MSNBC, I hear their audiences down to just a few hundred thousand people.
Less than the average radio jock.
If I were you, I would take a fresh look at the United States. Given that you know everything in your quite superior I assume you've traveled overseas and lived in other countries , experienced different political systems, been exposed to religious tyranny and socialism/communism.
I have, but I'm not a teacher so my opinion doesn't count.
I assume you started businesses in different countries, taking risks with your own house equity had your business cancelled out by a change in government regulation, driven by what some policy analyst thinks is best for everybody who has a Masters degree but no experience in earning an income.
I assume you've started corporations, campaigns, nonprofits?
I assume you've invented new technology processes, business models?
I only have half an engineer's degree, what do I know.
Bill Gates and I have the same level of education, and he is quite the loser.
Same as that Besos guy, I don't think he finished college either.
If you thought the above was bad, Lady you just got 2% of what I can download.
Appreciate what the United States has given you, fight to preserve individual liberty and freedom because when you guys finally fold because of the fifth column you've got generating in your country in collusion with the media, we are all fucked.

maid4ever,

Really? You still find the urge to make insulting comments to people? Why? For what reason, other then be nasty and insulting? Does "winning" and "proving your side" right that strong of an urge to you? All you are doing is making yourself and the "point of view" you represent look bad.

Your first post, after mine, about the hot air balloon does nothing at all to this discussion except make you look petty and looking for further a fight that people have already ended.

Your post to Brunette, is nothing more than an attack in which you use your opinion and facts of your choosing to make your "opinions" look like "facts". You are aware that the other side can do the same thing - and has - since you have complained about it in the same post. You are doing the exact same thing you accuse Brunette of doing. The only reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because the "facts" you are stating align with your opinion.

Dude, let it go. Move on... I mean really...

Wow @Maid4ever, you have crossed the line from any type of civility into personal attacks. Most of what you say is such drivel it’s not even worth a reply. But why don’t you show our teachers some respect? They are generally underpaid, and under appreciated, and yes, know more by the way of facts than your anecdotal life will ever be able to tell you.

Plenty of us have lived internationally, started companies internationally, and have experienced other cultures and governmental systems. Your opinion has no more value than anybody else’s. In fact, it has less credibility because your opinions are not based on actual facts. Feel free to have whatever misinformed opinions you want, but don’t be surprised when us “brainwashed” educated folks don’t agree because we look at things empirically.

You also lost all credibility with me once you felt the need to personally attack Brunette. That’s usually a sign that someone knows their logic is faulty.

Of course, ya know, all us teachers and lawyers and scientists and PhD’s are all just brainwashed. You and Bill Gates are the only ones who could possibly “get it.” Oh snap, Bill Gates isn’t impressed with Trump either. I guess that just leaves you.

Thank you Venia. The only reason I felt the need to continue stating my background in history and education is the fact that I am so young. Which was pointed out as a flaw in one of their posts, so I wasn’t so wrong about that. Thanks for having my back. It’s truly appreciated. No one knows how hard I work to protect, teach, and guide all my students. I’m not perfect, but I’ve never pretended to be. Any post where I said not to argue is simply because it is facts and not fake news, which I knew would be an opposing comment. Although those comments were cruel and targeting me, we shouldn’t give them the satisfaction.

I appreciate your sentiment, I truly do. However, the debt of gratitude is truly owed to our sisters and brothers that made the ultimate sacrifice and those that came back less than they were.

I was fortunate, that although I was in a very dangerous career field, I suffered no lasting injuries other than wear and tear. Again I am proud of my service, but I do not want gratitude that I believe rightfully belongs to others more deserving. I am grateful for your recognition though.
