Why do people use KiK?

I've started to notice that 9 out of 10 people on this site, male wise, use Kik. Yea it's a nice app, but im curious as to why you don't use another app.

I personally hate KiK because I was groomed into sending nudes as a child by someone who I thought gave a shit about me. I was 15 at the time and in a rough spot. I'm not sure if any other females have had the same experience or even some males. I thought most people knew that a lot of men on kik are usually not looking for anything good. Not anyone that I've met on this site. Just what I've noticed as a child.

Usually if someone tells me to Kik them, I usually keep them on the site. Does anyone else feel the same?

The reason why kik is so popular is that it doesn’t share personal information. The only information you get from kik is someone’s user name. You don’t get a location, real name or anything of the sort unless it’s personally given to you.

A lot of kinksters back in the day liked kik because it kept them safe and hidden from anyone trying to do anything to them.

DrWakko is as often, spot on. It's very good at preserving privacy. I myself have used it, and many girls I've spoken with have proffered it for exactly for that reason.

Lately kik has been performing less well for me so I've switched to telegram. However uess I'm using the app wrong it still shares my phone number. I can However set to delete messages and such automatically which is a feature many girls have appreciated and felt safer for.

You get the same feature set out of discords with many more benefits such as: A native desktop app, a lack of overly intrusive advertisements, you don't get bombarded with porn bots the way you do on kik or snapchat, and you have the option between direct messages and servers (which are analogous to kik's group chats). These days I absolutely refuse to use kik, it's an abject nightmare and it's lack of a desktop component is a real dealbreaker for me as someone who prefers to have my physical keyboard over a touch kb. I did use kik for a time though, back in 2015ish, and it wasn't -as- bad as it is now.

Telegram is the closest 1:1 analogue to kik I can think of that I don't mind using - but with that app you have to make sure you drill down into your privacy settings and make sure it's not sharing out your telephone number.

You get the same difficulties on every platform. It’s a very unfortunate aspect of life online. People are faceless.

I’ve seen the predatory nature of many on kik first hand, and have heard of the same on Discord, Telegram and Viber.

You can’t even say we are all responsible for ourselves when minors are exploited. It’s sickening and one of the many reasons I don’t use those platforms

I understand where you're coming from, Alice, but your presence on these services or lack thereof has zero effect on the exploitation. This is a human issue, rather than a platform one. If there are platforms for communication, minors are being exploited on them. If any of these platforms ceased to exist tomorrow, this would still be happening. Any social media site, email service, etc also has this same issue.

The only real solution to this issue is one of two options, either we quarantine off the criminals/exploiters away from society, or we bifurcate the internet into a truly age gated place where one network is for minors and the other for adults and never the twain shall meet.

My philosophy when interacting with online kink communities outside of sites like the cage or fetlife is this: I don't interact with communities not ran by people I don't know unless they have an age verification process in place.

I understand that but I have personal reasons for choosing not to use the platforms. I’ve no need for them at all so, none of us have in truth, so I just don’t have them. It’s not just about the effect on the exploitation, it’s about watching it happen, how that makes me feel, and the headspace it takes up.
I guess it’s like choosing to eat in a restaurant that has a side room where adults can exploit minors. My eating there, or not, has no effect on the success of the restaurant if it is already busy, but I still wouldn’t eat there.
I don’t have issue with anyone using the platforms. I’ve more reasons for that for not being present, I find them to be quite toxic places much of the time.

JustAlice, if I may...I believe the restaurant you are referring to is the entire internet. I do not mean this to say your boycott has no meaning but perhaps your argument is stronger if you state that you choose to reward applications that actively explore how to minimize if not eliminate such abuses.

However, while this discussion is of significant value it begins to digress from the hosts original goal. The focus of which is kik. My apologies for my contributions on this matter.

Privacy???

An app designer once told me ;
“Always remember, if something is free , then its YOU that is the product that’s being sold”

I’m not really looking to have a strong argument. I make the choice for me. I’m not trying to convince anyone else.
