Have you noticed when an article pops up in your feed about someone leaving a nasty note for a server in place of a tip that the handwriting usually looks similar? Are these stories just click-bait penned by the same person or is there something wrong with people that don't tip that shows up in their handwriting?

(Yes, I understand that tipping is largely a states thing because our servers are legally paid under the minimum wage.)

obsequiae(dom male) - Maybe there's some use of stock images that you're seeing duplicated across multiple instances. I definitely don't think these stories are click-bait most of the time (of course if it's in the "chum" section that's found on a lot of places, yeah, probs click-bait). There are just too many people who a) think that if things aren't 1,000% perfect during their meal it gives them license to be an asshole to their server b) think being a server or any employee working in a restaurant is less of a job than other jobs and if you wanted to make real money you'd pull yourself up by your bootstraps. Whether this is something they realize they believe consciously or not is a whole other issue, but it sure does come out real quick when Karen wants to talk to the manager.

P.S. - There's also a special place in hell for those assholes who leave what looks like money but is just a piece of proselytizing nonsense.

kaoh - PPs. another place in hell for the people that put a stack of dollar bills on the table and take one away each time they don't like something. I've never seen it but have heard about it. And another story about a business owner who presented several envelopes to a server telling them one had $1,000 the others had various amounts and one had a single dollar. To the server's credit, they read the boss off in front of clients and employees and told him they were not there for his amusement and not to play his game-show and refused any of the envelopes. I was brought up correctly. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out. And no, I was never a server. I don't like the tip game but it is how it is played at this time so plan to play or stay home. Bring on the VAT please.
