I am not sure of the context - but the Pole Star in the Northern Hemisphere - like the Southern Cross ( Three Maria's at the crux ) - in the Southern Hemisphere,... both are (relatively) classed as 'fixed' and so used for navigation.

- It's been a while since I read - Esoteric Astrology - A Treatise on Cosmic Fire ( Arcane Astrology) by Alice Bailey - so would have to recap.

~ Once in Brazil - During an occult UMBANDA 'medium development group' - I had a PRETO VELHO ( old black tribal wise man - spirit ) who spoke to me stating he wanted to TALK through me. These 'AFRICAN' origins are strong there practised through - VOODOO, MACUMBA, CANDOMBLÉ and UMBANDA.

~ The preto Velho, in Umbanda, is associated with African ancestors, just as the Caboclo is associated with the Indians and the Bahian with northeastern migrants ( in Brazil )
The Pretos Velhos, would be the most well-known entities nationally, even by lay people who had only heard of these Afro-Brazilian religions. Preto Velho is also remembered for the instrument he normally uses, the pipe.
