Once upon a time, a billion years ago, I had a paper route - my grandfather taught me to have a handful of pepper for such cases when a dog was chasing me - it worked surprisingly well ?

Innocent Me​(sub female)​{Protected} - A handful of actual pepper? Like...the pepper you put on your food? Haha I could see that working. I have a mace bracelet my Daddy makes me wear on my walks.

I was walking, almost home, and this dog probably 50-75 pounds came charging at me. I was like....whelp, I can't run 'cause that would be dumb. So I just kept walking, didn't change my pace, didn't flinch, didn't look at him. I pretended he didn't exist and he came to a screeching halt about half an inch from me...I could feel him trying to figure out why I wasn't running, then he just started backing up and walked away. I'm 5'3, this dog was like hip height. I literally almost died. Hahaha

Today I saw one of his little friends on the side of the road, he'd been hit by a car...he was very dead. I felt a bit sad for him.

One time I was taking my dog on a walk, she's 25 pounds and a total lover not fighter. Like 5 chihuahuas came running out of nowhere, cornered her and started trying to bite her. I picked her up, put her over my shoulder and scooped one of those little dogs up with the top of my foot and yeeted (yup, I said yeeted lol) it away from us...the others went 'oh shit' and ran for the hills. No one's messing with my girl. lol

Is it just me or is this song so sad? It's like...deep, meaningful sad. My heart hurts for this song.

Innocent Me​(sub female)​{Protected} - But is it? I worked as a waitress in my 20's and one of my coworkers came in completely traumatized. We asked what was wrong. She said as she was backing out of her driveway she ran over a bunny. She looked in the mirror and saw that it wasn't dead and we were like....what did you do?! And she's like....well, it wasn't going to make it so I ran it over again to kill it. We were like.... 0_0. Poor girl was so sad, but she didn't want it to suffer.

Innocent Me​(sub female)​{Protected} - Probably could've kept that sad story to myself. I'll cheer you up. Here's the story of my dog....

I always wanted a dog, so when I lived in New York State I came back to Texas to visit my family. I decided to adopt a dog, went down to the shelter with my b/f at the time and couldn't find one that felt right. He called me over and wanted me to take a look at a dog he'd found. She was in a little pen, in the corner with the saaaadest look on her face. I took her out to walk her and she was the sweetest little girl. So, I paid my fee...they had just picked her up so they were going to send her off to be fixed and get her shots.

Got a call a few days later saying they took her temperature and it was high, she was positive for kennel cough and she was massively pregnant. They wanted to euthanize her, so I started crying on the phone. They told me I could come back and pick another dog and I told the man on the phone I didn't WANT another dog because THAT was my dog. So I drove down to the shelter and barged into the boss's office, crying and begging him not the kill her and her puppies. He finally felt so bad that he said he'd reach out and see if he could find someone willing to foster her. Well, he found someone. She went to foster, got treatment for her kennel cough, had her puppies, they apparently were so adorable and got adopted out the first day they were up for adoption.

They told me a few months after I met her that I could finally pick her up. So, I arrived with a leash and collar and he tells me not to be discouraged if she doesn't recognize me because we'd only met briefly and hadn't seen each other for months. Well, we went to the back and he opened up her kennel. She darted out, ran circle around me and when I sat down on the floor she jumped into my lap and started licking my face. He looked amazed and just goes....well damn, she definitely recognizes you! He started laughing and told me the fact that I was so invested her was the only reason he was willing to try so hard to save her, because he knew someone would be waiting for her.

I took her home, got her groomed and named her Chai. My sister said she looked like a Chai latte (her color) and I was like...ew, no. But for some reason I googled 'Chai' and it popped up that Chai is the Hebrew symbol for 'living' or 'life' and I thought it was fitting. So, she's Chai.

There, a feel good story for you. :)
