Firecracker Diaries - A combination of stories, random thoughts and an appreciation log of life with Daddy

I'm a owned and collared. The journey I have been on with Daddy is amazing...and only gets better! This is my daily entries of what is going on in my head and stories of all the things I’m learning with Daddy!

On my flight this morning the flight attendant is giving the preflight safety speech. It’s 6:30 in the morning and you can tell that she is trying to be as chipper as she can. The speech she gives is routine for the most part....but she adds her side comments randomly. These side comments are what give me the giggles and also give me insight to her people hating vibe....

The comment after explaining the life jacket was the best. She just simply stated that the vest has a cool feature of illuminating once you land in the water... so you can watch all the little fishes nibble at your feet. ?. Ummmm.... what I heard was there is a light that lights up so you can watch as the sharks eat you alive! Lol

Then she was explaining that you had to leave your mask on for the entire flight. You had to keep your nose and mouth covered....this was reiterated multiple times... and how you can only remove it for a drink or a snack.....but it should not take you an hour to eat your M&M’s.

Just made me think....this has been this poor woman’s life for the past 6 months....have to remind people to wear their masks....to stay 6 feet apart...how to wear their masks...explaining policy....pleading with people to just be safe. OMG....I would have already flipped out and slapped some people....so her little sarcasm and small digs don’t bother me at all...I actually feel for her...and everyone else that has to service the public at this time.

Be nice people....just follow the rules...respect everyone....even when you may not agree....just be nice!!!

Until tomorrow....

Sunshinegirl(sub female) - I work in retail and I have to remind asshole customers to put their masks on all the time, as well as dealing with their attitudes when I tell them to do so. I swear, the US is a shitshow

shahh - It's not just the US. But please ...if someone seems genuinely scared and reluctant at the request (Not in an angry ridiculous fit of rage)... Please be kind. You never know the circumstances. Most people who refuse are being jerks...but some genuinely cannot accommodate the request.

Sunshinegirl(sub female) - I have almost zero empathy for people who walk into a retail store and give me attitude about a mask. First off, retail is not a “necessity” at all. If someone is so prone to COVID then maybe they should rethink going out for anything that isn’t groceries, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Second, the rules are VERY plain and simple. There’s a giant sign outside that says No Mask No Service. The rules are there to protect people, not to annoy or scare people. You know what’s scary? Watching your auntie have a tube down her throat and fight for her life while people bitch and moan about having to wear a thin face covering.

Grow up.

shahh - That was entirely unnecesarily and the last portion completely rude. In zero ways did I deserve that retort.

shahh - 'Prone to covid' was your leap and had nothing to do with my request/reminder. And in no way did I claim the rules weren't clear. I was however extremely clear that some people genuinely cannot, and those people shouldn't be treated as 'less than' or lumped into the category of the jerks who just refuse for the hell of it.

ElizaEmma(sub female){NotLooking} - @shahh, I see that you are from Canada. I cannot speak for what is OK or now in Canada, but most of the stores in the US that require people to wear a mask also offer those who cannot/will not wear one online shopping, some even offer to have the customers stay in the car, have an associate go out and ask what they want to bring them to the car. Uber, Instacart, etc. are all offering shopping/delivery services. There is simply NO excuse to go in a business that requires mask and not abiding the request.

Yes, those who willing endanger others SHOULD be lumped into jerks. One of my graduate degrees is in public health and I have many friends working in the medical field and I wish we could do a COVID ward real show. Maybe when people see the gruesome suffering of the patients and the never-ending sacrifices of the doctors and nurses they will realize wearing a mask is just a very minor inconvenience.

@MidlifeMan, being nice a human being has more than "doing it with a smile", it also means protecting those who are vulnerable, and sometimes it is necessary to call out the jerks.

shahh - We are quite varied across Canada with severity of infection rates and the rules. In zero ways am I downplaying or denying the severity of what's happening in certain places. The shopping options are a good start and a good alternative and most places have far more options than my hometown does. I just wholeheartedly disagree with everyone being lumped into the jerk category when that is simply untrue. I've seen far more dangerous people running around in their mask clearly thinking they're invincible. My inability to wear a mask (yes...inability...not a choice) and over adherence to every other precaution is FAR more effective than any non-medical mask wearing twit. My partner is one of those health care workers, so yes, I do understand your points, but they do not always apply.

ElizaEmma(sub female){NotLooking} - Understood. I am not saying people who cannot wear a mask are jerks, only those who insist in going to a business that clearly requires a mask without one. Don't like the requirement, don't go there, simple as that.

shahh - When there aren't online options or curbside or other easily accessible alternatives; that's flat out discrimination. No different than denying someone in a wheelchair access because they might run over toes in smaller isles. If a few places here and there have the rule, it's easily avoidable and different shopping options can be made. Nothing about it is 'as simple as that'.

ElizaEmma(sub female){NotLooking} - Again, you are in Canada, the laws may be different. Business of a certain size (yes, if I have a one woman shop selling widgets from my home, the law does not require me to have wheelchair access, etc.) need to have "reasonable accommodation". Allowing one non-mask wearer to enter the store is not fair to the 20, 30, or 50 other customers who are abiding by the rule.

I am not going to keep this argument here as I feel it is disrespectful to hijack Firecracker's blog. I still disagree with you though.

shahh - Agreed about the hijacking. Apologies Firecracker.

MidlifeMan(dom male) - Hats off, to anybody who has had to deal with additional stresses each day since Covid hit and are still doing it with a smile, treating all equally and basically being a nice human being
