Poetic Thoughts

A guest at a dinner party observed the strange expression on James Thurber's face. 'Don't be concerned,' said Thurber's wife. 'He's writing.'

Avoidance,

Where did I learn this maladaptive form of coping? Ha, and the avoidance of changing it? I swear it's also the underlying cause of my procrastination .. And this Avoidance, really only makes things a lot more stressful, increases my anxiety. If only I could use the technique of avoidance to avoid avoidance .. If that even makes sense ..

Satindragon - I have to find solutions. If I avoid things sometimes they get overwhelming. Then I'm in real trouble. I like to deal with things while they are a small issue.

Cherry2000(sub female) - I find that I avoid things when I don't know how to solve the issue. I need a solution and can't leave things messy or undone. It eats at me until I do face it, so for my peace of mind, I try to not leave things.

Finished(switch female) - Avoidance is a natural response to something we perceive as unwanted or undesirable, difficult or potentially harmful or even just boring. We all do it. It’s just through experience we learn when that behaviour gets in the way of productive outcomes and we try to correct it or change it so that we don’t screw ourselves. I am a HUGE procrastinator - but only when it’s something I don’t want to do which is natural but when it comes to laundry... well, I can only afford so many new underwear!! Ha ha ❤️😋
