Earliest Memory Challenge

KingDom(dom male) • Apr 22, 2025
Challenge: Write about your earliest memory. You may be surprised by what you recall, feel, and learn from it. Tag me so that I can read it.

Writing about your earliest memory can also help you recall other memories, gives insight into your childhood self and helps you see how far your grown and/or the baggage you still carry.

I wrote mine here: https://thecage.co/blog/userblog.php?blog_id=4766

I can vageuly remember a couple images and impressions from when I was 2 or 3, just fleeting glimpses and clips, but not many really coherant memories, at least, not until I was around 4.

I remember being an infant in my car seat, being placed in my family's dining room. I was scared of the balloon floating on the ceiling and was crying. My Grandma came to check on me and saw me crying looking at the balloon and she thought it was because I wanted it, so she grabbed it and tried to give it to me/put it in my face which terrified me even more.

I have a lot of memories from very young, to the point many people often don't believe me or think it was dreams. But, I remember very distinct things from a house my Dad lived in when I was a toddler that I couldn't possibly know if I didn't remember, so I don't believe they're fake/made-up/dreams.

I have a clear memory of being in bed between my mother and father and being in a total state of bliss. The room was very bright. The wallpaper was white with little blue flowers. There was a window to the right and one behind us to the left. When I was older, I told my mom about that memory. She told me that they stopped taking me into their bed when I was three months old. I can still feel fantastic when I remember that moment.

I have a few from early childhood. One is when I am in my bedroom. I was lying in my crib that was positioned next to the window. I can still smell the damp dust from the window sill. It is mostly dark with some light filtering through the pink curtains. Suddenly the crib began to jump and move to the center of the room. ( we had hardwood flooring and my crib had wheels) In the next moment, my mother opened the door and the light was bright coming from behind her. She picked me up and all at once I felt fear and panic.

As an adult, I shared this memory with her and we were able to pinpoint the day. It was a major earthquake in my home state. Before this, I thought the memory was from a bad dream and didn't share it with anyone.

My earliest memory. My brother and I were playing in the yard and we heard ducklings in car crawl through the fence. Trying to find them we soon we lost. Read ended up in the Neighbor’s yard about a mile away and Road in an old pick up back home I I remember a large tree had blown over and the roots we’re far over my head. I remember arguing with my brother about which way to go and I remember the old pick up. I brought me home.

There were a group of us toddlers who were all around the same age, when we were really little, and the parents would get together and chat while us kids, mostly 3,4 years old, would just wrassle around. At one time, it was right after the 4th of July, we were all, maybe three or four of us, in the neighbor's back yard where they had a paved patio, and I was running around collecting the stems from bottle rockets. They were colorful and pretty, like little colored twigs. I didn't know what they were until Mom explained they came from fireworks, I just thought they were pretty colored sticks. My fellow toddler, kid about my own age, joined me in this effort and naturally, we eventually started arguing over who collected the most bottle rocket stems, trying to steal them from each other.

But what was more fun, and less ruthlessly combative, was riding circles in our big-wheels on the driveway. There was a very slight tilt at one end of the driveway, so you could pedal up to it and get a little speed riding back down. Our driveway became a sort of mini-Martinsville short-track speedway for us kids, lots of contact, trading paint, and exciting and fun big wheel action. Again, we were all around 4 or 5 or so. One highlight of this, which I learned later, was that Mom, while talking to the neighbor lady, learned that the girls next door were peacefully having a "Tea Party" with their dolls inside, while us boys were playing with our "toys", racing around being rambunctious.
