If you mean Lifestyle tools: it is because, currently, I need something to do with my hands. I get ideas for toys and what not, so I make things to get them out of my mind.

If you mean tools for around the house: it is because I want to have them at the ready in case I need them for repairs. I'm not one of those guys who enjoys having to stop in the middle of something to have to run to the hardware store.

As others have said "so you have them when you need them", but sometimes it's just toxic consumerism.

This goes beyond tools, of course, but we are bombarded with ads constantly from all directions, and one of the best ways to sell people something, especially something they don't need, is to make them think they need it, and you can do that most easily by making them feel insecure and then hinting that your product will make them feel secure.

I was a remodeler back in the early 2000's and I learned fast it is better to have a tool and not need it than need it and not have it.
