I thought this might help those interested in living a more healthy life and know there are days I do not wish to work out or run or days I eat things considered bad, but if you keep pushing yourself you will find there are more good days than bad and you will slowly change how you live so you can stay healthier as you age.
I stumbled into fitness at a very young age in junior high (middle school) by joining the wrestling team. I was and still am a small male currently at 5’ 6” and 155 lbs. As I entered high school I came to realize most females liked muscles and fit bodies and since I was not very handsome from the neck up and could not do much about that but I could greatly affect my attractiveness from the neck down by working out with weights.
When I went to high school the wrestling coach wisely required all wrestlers to be on the cross country team so they would be cardio vascular fit the first day of wrestling season. Many do not realize cardio is critical in wrestling.
I continued to work out and run as I entered college strictly doing so to attract women to have sex with. I was majoring in physics( barely getting Bs) with plans to work for NASA to help put a man on Mars. Then the Apollo project was cancelled which ended that dream. I was dating a hippie girl into health foods so I switched to majoring in nutrition and eventually became a Registered Dietitian (RD). I continued my fitness routine. I started working as an RD in Fort Myers, Fla.
What I quickly realized is 90% of the patients were there because they ate too much, drank too much or smoked and all of the complications that came with that behavior. 5% were there because of a bad genetic draw where they had diseases through no fault of their own, just bad luck. And then there was the 5% there due to accidents.
What impressed me so much and made me realize fitness is a life long process is that those elderly Floridians that were fit were in and out of the hospital in a very short time and those that were not stayed longer and had many more complications due to also being in the category of "ate too much, drank too much or smoked". I realized then how important staying fit mattered to the quality of life as we age and not just something I did to get laid.
Fast forward to today. At 69 I still work out in my home gym (also my kinky dungeon) and run 5-6 days a week.
There is a stark difference in the quality of life compared to my unfit peers, so I want to encourage those here to look/think long term and realize you can add many years to your life and those years can be very fulfilling in how you feel, what you can eat and get away with and continue a wonderful rich sex life into your later years.
