Musings from a former Military man..

In my line of work, death is a constant presence. But today, I had to perform the most unpleasant of tasks. I had to notify a family that both of their children were killed in an automobile accident on the way to school. The worst part of this task is the walk to the front door. They see you coming and you can watch the fear and anxiety grow in their eyes and on their faces, then I deliver the life changing blow. I try to pull the mask on and hide my own feelings, sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail, but the duty gets done...

SirsBabyDoll(sub female){Pizza+☕} - On the flip side, the worst part for the receiver of such news is the knock on the door.

It's a sound I'll never be able to unheard. Two knocks for a double notification. I can't remember the faces of the officer and Chaplin that told me the news, but I remember the sound of the knock.

Water Lioness(sub female) - As an Emergency Room physician, I've had to perform this duty too many times. There's no easy way. The family doesn't want to know how hard you worked, or how sorry you are. They just want to know...alive or dead. It's the hardest part of the job, and the one for which there is no way to adequately prepare.

CapnRick(dom male) - So proud of your service! I drove ships in the Navy for a career, and every Doc I served with was a true professional. I admire your career choice, even with the sometimes heavy duties it involves.
