This is a bit of a mini rant of something I saw on Fet
Often, I see people complaining about lack of clarity within a given D/s dynamic. Particularly about rules and why they are set up.
Yes things can fail if rules are not explained well enough and yes it is the Dom/me's job to explain to why a rule is set up the way it is. And, yes the s type should ask if things are unclear.
But that is not where this is all going.
One of the things that a good s type should have is a set of Critical Thinking skills. Rightly so, an s type will be given a set of rules, but not even the best set of rules covers everything. Us Dom/mes are human and, guess what....
We fuck up now and then.
So when the rules don't cover a situation, the s type needs to make a wise decision but using their intelligence guided by experience. By this, I mean the s type has watched their Dom/mes make such decisions in the past and should be able to determine what the best course should be.
So is this going to work every time? No. But, if one explains why it didn't work and your reasoning why is should have, then things will more than likely go better for you.
