Yup I laugh my ass off at the wimpy so called pro athletes who are way over paid. I shall tell you why....

They get a little injury yes I said!!! A little torn ACL or meniscus tear in a knee and a team goofy golf type truck rushes out on the field to rescue their hurt selves. Lol lol!!! I have lived for over 15+ years with no,0,none,nada,not any cartilage in my knees. Then in July I found out I have been walking and functioning with a torn ACL and a torn meniscus in my right knee. Did a golf truck come rescue my ass!!??!! NO! Did anyone rush me right off to surgery and rehab?!!!?? NO! Lol lol

I have been scheduled for knee replacement total knee replacement in my right knee in November...yes I will wait and survive.

Apparently high paid athletes....well whatever, it's America buying into the commercialism of high priced entertainment.

Oooops that's another topic....buying stuff crap shit junk chachickis basically kills nature.

IowaDom(dom male) - What? you see 1.17 million per game as excessive? Well now, with the average NFL game lasting 180 minutes, thats a paltry $108.33 per second ($6,500.00 per minute, $390,000.00 per hour), no wonder they ask for raises, the window dude at Chick Filet makes more!

Max Heathen(other male) - The average length of an NFL player is about Three and a half years, unless they get a really early start and then they might make it Seven. The reason for their short stent of action is usually due to torn ACL/Meniscus and/or concussions. While I do agree that they are over paid, it does come to down to the rest of their lives are based off what they are paid by how well they did. Very few actually players get any merchandising contracts to last them beyond the amount they make in the 3.5 years and the league doesn't feel the responsibility to teach them anything like money management so usually they live a lavish life for another year before they live in the red and are broke within three years of "forced retirement". I feel no empathy for them, but let us do face some reality... they practice and play hard in a sport that can and does destroy their body for 10-12hrs a day during season, 6 days a week. Off season its around 5-6hr, 6 days a week. While todays players may be carted away in goofy golf type truck... its not of their choosing. They are an investment of the Team they work for and it's the rules set by the Team owners to have them immediately removed despite how serious the injury is. When they are no longer usable, they are let go and nobody picks them back up because injured players don't make money for the Team owners. So on average they spend years to make it to the NFL just to make an excessive amount, that cost them the rest of their lives, ending in losing everything in the same length they spent playing. All that time at the gym, training, pushing, abusing your body in physical exertion, forcing yourself to be dedicated, focused and disciplined... and in a bad move, your career is ended because of a tear. I stopped by your Profile out of curiosity and yeah... is see how much tougher you are than those mambi pambies... something ground down over years of willing neglect, (to the point of needing total replace) is so much more strength and toughness then having your knee twisted to the point of tearing under an immediate and traumatic impact, that causes such straining between the joints that limber cartilage rips from between hardened muscles, ending your life's dream. Good luck with your surgery and long hours of working out the pain in the usage of your new knee.

Ingénue{VK} - Wow I didn't realise how shortlived their careers are! Your points are really interesting, Max!

1crazygirl(sub female) - I see your side...still think entertainers ,which it is, are overpaid.
Money management is something acquired typically in life by self teaching. Parents, society and self help with the process but on the whole unless a person gets a formal money management education most of us do it on our own.
Pro athletes are given a gift which they work to hone perfect. They hope to be chosen to showcase their skills on the field for an event. I agree that they should be paid for this and paid better than dude at chick filet lol lol...
They should also benefit from a system of some kind of retirement plan.
Instead of making incredible amounts of money per year for a short time. Why don't pro athletes make a realistic income divided into a lifetime!!??!!

IowaDom(dom male) - That in consideration, the AVERAGE NFL salary is 3.2 Million per year, so if they make 3 years, 9.6 Million .... um ... I could handle that :)

Six Foot Four - Sure, but with the average career being a mere 3.5 years, most players will never get to that Very Expensive Second Contract. The elite, players who are on their second or their third contract, pulling down tens of millions/year, distort that number, just as Billionaires do for the rest of us. Better to ask what the median is, which is still a very healthy $860K annually. A first job for half a million/year or more is something most of us would take, but we don't necessarily want the trauma that goes with it.

Don't forget with NIL in college, athletes are getting paid right out of high school. We live in a wild time, my friend. In your neck of the woods, the Hawkeyes' own Kaleb Johnson is pulling down a very healthy nearly 700K, and the top ten are all well over 200K. Football-dominated, with basketball having the lone other entry in the top ten.

They've got a skill. They are maximizing their value, and while I would agree that their value is overrated, America is a Football Country. Being good at an in-demand skill PAYS, just as it always has.

IowaDom(dom male) - And lets not forget those who do not even come close, and can lose alot more than a knee ... A fireman, A police officer, a member of the military .. and so on and so on. I just do not believe athletes are more important, or necessary then the above folks, nor do I believe they need compensated in the multiples of hundreds and thousands of times what those folks make.

1crazygirl(sub female) - Yaaaaay yaaaay thank you:);):);) IowaDom!!!!
Also teachers all the first responders deserve more money than pro athletes as far as I am concerned.
