Codes and Symbols
Numerous codes, signs and symbols are in use in the various subcultures that make up the BDSM community besides the linguistic items that this dictionary attempts to catalog. The best known, although perhaps no longer widely used, is the hanky code for indicating sexual preferences.

What the heck?? There is a secret code and no one ever said anything?? Let me in people...I need to know these things!!! Has anyone ever heard of this? Used it? What's it like?

Give me the deets people!!!

SirsBabyDoll(sub female){Pizza+☕} - The Hanky code started back in the original Gay Leather Community (IIRC). Old Guard members also have codes and symbols. You can probably find information on it online.

TheAnt(dom male) - Firecracker, the handkerchief (hanky) code is frankly a bit complicated. I think you would almost need to carry a notepad with you and then look through it until you found their color and/or pattern. I also believe there was variations from one community to another (or perhaps even within the same community.
It wasn’t exactly a secret code lol. More of an advertisement as I understood it.
I believe it was pretty well starting to run its course when I was being mentored in the 80s. It is always possible other communities kept it alive for far longer.
There was no Google (or internet) back then other than a few local BBSs so that did not exactly help give clarity either.
Sadly, I cannot even vouch for the Google results as it was stressed that I did not really need one. I think it could be better summarized as the have were not heterosexual and the have nots were.
