Today, we're sharing a story from reader Alizah F. from Salt Lake City, Utah.

"Last week, I got the results back from one of my medical school exams and didn't pass the final by 0.08%. I was devastated because I spent weeks studying this material and had put in countless midnights in the library mastering the content. I felt shame and hopelessness associated with my failure and so it was hard for me to confide in my friend Daryl. When I finally told her what had happened, she immediately came to my aid and refused to entertain any doubts I had about my ability to become a doctor. She affirmed my identity, my knowledge, and my purpose in medicine. Sometimes, I think kindness is just believing in your friend even when they don't believe in themselves."

Innocent Me(sub female){Protected} - I am sitting here thinking about this exact thing...empowering each other, supporting each other, believing in each other. So much hostility going on behind the scenes here in the forums and blogs. Women fighting women, people being super sensitive and taking it out on others...makes me think and feel. I was just reading this, it's pointed towards women...but I believe it could be for anyone. I hope you don't mind me sharing.

I wish more women realized that helping another woman win, cheering her on, praying for her, or sharing a resource with her, does NOT take away from the blessings coming to them. In fact, the more you give, the more you receive. Empowering women doesn't come from selfishness but rather from selflessness. ~Selene Kinder

Again, it says women...but I believe it goes for humans in general. Thank you for writing this blog, I was hoping someone would touch on the subject. <3

GiannaRay(sub female) - Yes! I’m always hardest on myself. I am lucky to have some very good family and friends who hold a mirror up to me to try to show me how they see me to lift me up. It helps me to try to be kind and gracious to myself. Great post!
