Femdom is short for Female Domination or Female Dominant. No difference. "Strapon play" is an activity, not a prerequisite to being a Femdom.

Femdom has nothing to do with strap ons. Unless a female that's dom happens to be into them.

Femdom simply means "Female dominance".

Femdom (F/fm) is actually a doctrine, a division, a style, a type of BDSM. Like Maledom, gaydom, lesdom, GOR etc (there are others like FLR and Femsuprem, LFR, DD).
Femdom is a set role with no fluidity.
I'm not saying switches don't exist so pitch forks down please, its just in "Femdom" (when talking about the "Style" of BDSM) they don't (unless you have a F/f union) It the same within Maledom (M/mf) A male Dom will not change roles and become submissive, if he does, he not partaking in Maledom but rather (mixed) BDSM.
It is Female in the lead role, doing "BDSM" activities (such as strapon play). Some will say its not always based in Dominance in a BDSM sense but in the same breath some will say FLR (female LEAD relationship) is not Femdom. For me as emeX(sub male){Uncollared} said it means Female in charge in that SET role. It doesn't mean you switch between roles and do X one day and Y the next or take turns. It means X and Y will stay the same and be the constant.
