Okay so my spare room at home is about 3.2 x 3.2m. Decent size for a playroom.
My attic hatch is also in this room and I fitted a drop down wooden ladder for easy access to my ‘collection’.
As my interests include the use of slings and suspension, I have marked out the ceiling joists with screws, and once the room is painted, i will fit wooden beams along each one,
For this, I have rough sawn timber (47x47mm) and black fence stain. So I will fit a stained length across the ceiling and screw it up into the joists. Where the screws go, I will fit eye-plates rated to 100kg each with two 100mm screws, spaced every 50cm along all the beams.
Colour lour scheme will be mainly deep red and black. The walls and ceiling are papered and painted in light colours, so I am currently giving the entire room a coat of dark blue emulsion to bring the shade right down and I plan 2 coats of a red paint, like a dark maroon colour on top.
Lighting in the playroom will be RGB rope lights.
In the room, there is currently a nice set of vintage wardrobes in white with mirrored doors. Nice for a bedroom, but not what I want in my playroom. This is a sticking point for my husband as he still doesn’t understand the fetish needs for a proper playroom and says I should keep them in there. I could paint them black, but I had planned open rails and shelves so everything was on show. We’ll get back to that.
For the floor, I plan a large shower in the corner that backs on to the bathroom, and a sealed rubber matting glued down to plywood over the floor boards.
I can get this checker plate thick rubber matting on a roll. It’s for garage floors. I’ll fit that once the shower tray is in and seal it up with black silicone sealant. I’ll bring the rubber up the skirting boards all round the room too because there will be many liquid spillages during my play and I don’t want any fluids leaking through to the lounge below.
