rosethorn(sub female) - Ooo will go look that up thanks

Bunnie - Broths could be a good place to start. A very nutrient rich introduction back into the taste of meat before having to also deal with the texture.

rosethorn(sub female) - Thanks, good idea... i have no idea what the texture will be like. Im a bit nervous my mum used to cook meat so bad it put me off lol

Bunnie - Haha same!

rosethorn(sub female) - Really? Haha brilliant

Bunnie - We used to joke that chewing on a leather boot would’ve been more tender :/

rosethorn(sub female) - Thats exactly it

HGB(sub female){Scottish M} - Curious why? I'm trying to get away from meat. I'd also say expect digestive issues.

rosethorn(sub female) - Fancy a change, a few reasons, i mainly eat veg not the substitute stuff but i realised the substitute stuff has high salt and i could do with protein so thought why not give it a go. I can always go back if i don't like it. Thanks for the heads up :)

LaVieEnRose(sub female){Learning } - I was just about to say I’m doing the opposite as well 😂 but meat and I are not digestive friends...

I would say turkey is a nice place to start because I prefer it to chicken but chicken is a good place. And like bunnie mentioned broths are a great starting point

WhatamIfightingfor(dom male) - Chicken, avoid canned or free ranged. If cooked right is really good.

rosethorn(sub female) - Thanks :)

WhatamIfightingfor(dom male) - You're welcome

BigBubbles - Why not free range?
rosethorn(sub female) - In some places they inject water with chemicals into the meat ... depends on what free range means where you are... i think.... i could be wrong.

WhatamIfightingfor(dom male) - If the bird is too old it can have an extremely strong flavor, young free range is fine, old is not.

Sweet Raven(sub female) - My gateway back into meat eating was smoked oysters. Not only are they loaded with zinc, but also have as much iron as beef which is definitely a win/win.

rosethorn(sub female) - Oooo that sounds good thank you x

Sir Don(dom male){N/A} - I would start with Turkey or Chicken white meat
3 years ago
rosethorn(sub female) - I bought some substitutes to try and get used to the texture a bit before actually eating some its been over 15yrs
3 years ago
Sir Don(dom male){N/A} - the white meat will help with the digestion. don't eat alot at one time
3 years ago
rosethorn(sub female) - I was thinking maybe start with Mexican food like a burrito where its not just chicken
3 years ago
Sir Don(dom male){N/A} - I like all kinds of Mexican, hot dogs with onions all of the fixings Hamburgers.

rosethorn(sub female) - I always loved the vegi food but never tried with meat. Ive never had a hamburger either

Justme26 - OMG (I love red meat, but I have not eaten it in years because my gout flairs up). I think it would be between liver and bacon, Shepherds pie and a decent burger. Also used to love sausages, best in a hot dog arrangement, but sausages, not franks. Can I suggest you stick with fish and cheese, as they will give you the protean without effecting your digestion. Actually meat really is not good for you (but it tastes so good).

rosethorn(sub female) - Thanks for sharing, im sorry if its difficult to think about... i may have put my foot in it. I appreciate your advice but i have looked into it and happy with my decision. :) thanks for your suggestions x

SweetSirRendering(sub female) - yes, definitely take it slowly, as you could have digestive issues beyond the taste and texture.

23 years meat free. any time i have had accidental meat in my food i have had an involuntary food evacuation reaction. back from whence it came. 🤣.

if your concern is nutrition, have you considered in addition to vitamin supplements, eggs for protein and B vitamins and snacking on nuts like cashews for iron, protein, potassium, etc?

rosethorn(sub female) - Its hard not to find involantary food evacuation funny. Its a way to word it. I have been vegi for at least 15years. Im aware of eggs nuts and iron and so on. I have tried doing it through diet vegi wise, its just not working for me. In terms of supplements yes they can help but often need other things to help be absorbed into the body. You can buy a supplement here without knowing the source of protein iorn calcium and so on... they don't have to label vegi vegan or not. Same thing with omega 3 and 6. The iorn suplements could literally be from livestock. So i might as well eat a variety of food in my diet. Personally i don't like taking tablets if i don't have to, so if i can do it through diet its worth a go. Im not wanting to eat meat 24/7 but once or twice a week. I do have some good vegetarian recipes if you ever fancy one just drop me a message. Thanks for the positive comment, i just felt the need to put this out and explain x

SweetSirRendering(sub female) - for omegas i stick with flaxseed oil :) and only use vitamins as a lil extra because of absorption issues. i tried the same experiment you are discussing a few years back and i could not eat it. it was so gross! i added eggs to fill what i knew my body was missing. i do eat a lot of legumes and try to stick with whole foods, avoiding most of the meat replacements.

i hope your have better success than i did as i am not meant to eat that again clearly haha! hopefully your food thinks it’s better in than out! :)

rosethorn(sub female) - Oh dear i hope it wasn't too bad for you :). Meat substitutes are not always great. Sounds like you have a good plan that works for you. I hope i don't end up with the same issue lol
