Joel's Juke'n Joint - 38th and Euclid. . .
"Another?" She asked, wiping down his area, again. "whens the last time that thing was washed" Jack thought to himself - leaning back "im good, thanks Shell, I gotta get goin". Her non-committal smile traced the room. The place was dead . . . . except for Jack.
Shelly felt bad for him, she truly did - she remembers him and Rebecca coming in on Thursday nights for wings, he was so happy then. Poor guy. "Hey Jack, we're havin a cook out Saturday, stop by" . . . "I might" He didnt look up from his empty "Ill see if I can get Michelle to come" she said in a teasing tone. Jack forced a smile "we'll see - thanks Shell . . . "
It was a warm night. Jack unconsciously made his way towards his apartment on 29th. It was normally hard for him to take the transition from the stagnant bar air, but tonight it was nice.
He always thought Shelly had a great ass, but he'd never go there - he's known her and Ronny, "what, 16 years now? . . . .no, 17 - damn!" His feet led the way as he pondered Michelle - "not bad I guess, just . . . " a white van turned the corner sharply and sped off a block in front of him.
Unusually quiet for this part of town on a warm night. Jack stopped at the corner and just listened to the light click - debating if he wanted to go home . . . .or over to get something to eat . . . .
He looked back down the street and noticed a white van - "same van?" Sitting on his side of the street with its parking lights on, about a block down. He decided to just head home - last time he ate at Martha's it gave him a stomach ache. He crossed over Euclid and kept going. "Excuse me" a womans voice called out - Jack looked back, the white van 30 feet behind him - now on this side. A head poked out the passenger side and said something inaudible - "what?" Jack put his hand behind his ear - the woman repeated . . . Jack looked up the street and back at the van - the woman was just looking at him. He took a step towards the van "I didnt hear what you said" - she repeated something inaudible once again. "Oh for fucks sake!" Jack muttered, and walked over. Before he could even react, the sliding door flew open and two figures dressed all in black grabbed him - a jolt of lightening crashed into his ribs and everything went dark. . . .
Conscious thoughts crept back in . . .
"My head hurts . . . "
He heard voices . . . .
Jack opened his eyes - opened them again . . . "I cant see! "
Panic quickly set in . . .
"What the fuck! . . . Why cant I . . . "
He struggled against the restraints - arms bound . . . legs bound - he shook his head violently side to side - "why cant I move!??"
He tried to call out. . . Something was preventing him . . . .
Suddenly the voices quieted down and he heard foot steps . . . .
coming towards him . . . .
High heels . . . . .
The footsteps came to a stop . . . .
beside him . . . .
A thud - something hit the floor, - and the room went silent . . . .
