Musings of a Dom .... D/s relationships through the eyes of a Dom

5 years ago. June 20, 2019 at 1:57 AM

As a child, when I watched Frankenstein, I was always perplexed, as to why the people in the town wanted to destroy him.

They claimed he was a monster, but I had a different perspective, n my eyes he was not the monster, but the victim.

Recently, I was betrayed by someone I once loved. It was at this point, I began to see life through Frankenstein ‘s eyes.

Frankenstein's Betrayal ....

She gathered up the masses,
stoked the fires of their torches
led them to the castle
to bring down the beast

They came
they conquered
they destroyed

the
wrong
monster

Finished(switch female) - I believe in Mary Shelley’s novel, ‘the monster’ as it’s referred to is not expressed as such a sympathetic character as in the movies. Though I could be wrong, as my brain gets older I remember less and less. 😋 Anyway, it was supposed to be a cautionary tale of modern science and ‘playing god’. In Hollywood, he’s given more human characteristics than in the novel. Not sure why they went that route, but I have to agree with you about feeling sorry for him. It wasn’t his fault he was created.
On a completely different note... ever see Young Frankstein? It’s a Mel Brooks comedy and it’s a hoot!
Great poetry!

TheLittlePrincess(sub female){SSG} - I have to disagree with that. I believe the book showed the monster as being more of a sympathetic character. There were levels to the book as the story was told from three different perspectives but even Mary Shelley refered to him as "the creature" at times, which made it seem less cruel sounding. Once the story got to the monster's perspective, I think that's when you really see just how sad and unloved he really is. He is subjected to figuring out how to live in a world where he isn't accepted and he tells about how he had to learn and try to grow on his own. But I do completely agree that the creature was the victim. I think the movie and the book both presented the question of who is really the monster, really well.

Wicked Ways(dom male){venia} - I totally agree. Frankenstein didn’t choose his fate. From my perspective, he was persecuted for being , “ out of the norm.’
How many times have we seen that in our lifestyle?

ADIDAS - I feel the Dr/scientist that created Frankenstein was the evil monster in this story. Even the villagers weren't as they were just responding to something they didn't understand. Only what they saw and heard about. Definitely can be applied to current life situations today, Yes? How about let's not persecute someone for something we've heard through the grapevine until we investigate ourselves.

Wicked Ways(dom male){venia} - Well said!
Sadly, that happens way too much. It’s especially true of those that have been repeatedly abused. Instead of judging, the abuser, too often the victim takes the fall .
In my opinion, Frankenstein is not the case of life imitating art. Sadly, in this instance, it is Art that imitates life.

CrimsonRose - With the regards to the book and the "Monster" agree with one and all. I am impressed with the way you have handled your situation of betrayal and hurt. All to often we search to blame, which is always an unwise thing. "You can make mistakes, but you are not a failure until you blame others for those mistakes."
