Sadie's Sweets

Wicked and sweet thoughts of a sadist.

Let’s talk about fidget toys. These small, unassuming gadgets have a bigger impact than they let on, and they’ve become an unexpected hit at my munches.

A munch can be nerve-wracking, especially if you’re new to the lifestyle and/or stepping out of your comfort zone. For some, even seasoned kinksters, social events like this can feel overwhelming. A lot of attendees tell me that they’re neurospicy. Tbh, I’m not quite sure what made me think of them but what better way to create a calm, welcoming vibe than a table full of squishy creatures, sensory items, and other colorful toys?

Convenient Icebreaker

When I got to the munch I spread them out all over the table and invited people to “self-sooth” with the toys. Ngl. I had already picked out the ones I wanted to play with. As an introverted, empathic munch host, this was really helpful! The fidget toys seem to work as icebreakers too. I’ve seen so many connections spark over a shared love of a particularly squishy stress ball or someone sharing cool stories of their fav fidget toys that they have.

It’s not just about keeping hands busy, though. Fidget toys give you permission to exist in a space, exactly as you are. They say, “It’s okay to be a little nervous, a little fidgety. You belong here.” And isn’t that what we’re all about?

Secret Stash

So now, I don’t just bring fidget toys; I stockpile them. I order a new batch almost every month. (Seriously, I have a stash that would make a you jealous.) If you’re coming to my munch, you can expect a table full of tactile delights waiting for you. Play with them, take one home, or just let them sit there as a comforting presence. They’re there for you, like we all are.

What’s your favorite fidget toy? Let me know in the comments!

amalthea(sub female){Mr Gregory}Verified Account - This is brilliant! I love the koosh ball but also the unicorn pop it ring. The spinners are classic too. Nothing that flashes though because thst can trigger migraines and seizures. And the squishy stuff. In short, any toy! I want to go to your munch!!!

jackdawsVerified Account - If I am in need of something to keep my hands busy I tend to mess about with my Totally Not A Cheap Rip Off Jackman Multitool (not a toy I am aware, but it is useful for multiple purposes... I guess it is in the name lol), that or my keys. It is a great idea though, a table full of things to do, things to interact with, things to get you out of your headspace. I think colouring in pages for my wife would be RIGHT up there... though that may result in her just doing colouring in, and not actually doing much of anything else. Have you thought about getting a 3D Printer (unless you know someone with one) and using the squishy filament to make your own squishy designs (you can also find really cool Fidget Toy designs on the interwebs too, if you are unfamiliar with 3D design etc)?

Steellover(sub male) - I like the fidget spinners, but I more often than not will carry a polished rock or crystal in my pocket and fidget with that.
