Bondage

Dov Rowan(sub female) • Feb 8, 2023
Hi!
Recently I have gotten an interest in bondage, however I have been met with an influx of information... Shallow information.
May we talk about here? Like how to do it, precautions to take and steps plus equipment needed.
To add on this, is Shibari and bondage similar?

Shibari, also called senyojo jutsu, kinbaku and one or two other appellations--- is bondage, but specifically Japanese in origin and practice.

The tying of the ropes themselves is an art form, and having been the subject not too long ago (tough to find an accomplished practitioner of Japanese rope bondage) -----Plus I'm out of the game for now --- it does take a while as any decent work of art would.

But at any rate, the act of surrendering and being tied up in this manner as well as the pleasure (for me) of being completely subdued and vulnerable, is where the fun is for me and "the top of the day". (I never do commitments/long term)

Plus, when suspended, it's up to the bottom (subject,; Bonded One) to shift and squirm to the "least uncomfortable" position, all the while the ropes (specially designed for this activity) rub "special places" and generate erotic sensations to go along with the humiliation (for me as I was bound with onlookers watching-- a fetish of mine) leading to satisfaction in the Nth degree.

I have also been subject to "other bondage", usually for punishment and/or general discipline (" this is what will happen if you disobey" type shit) and attempted brat-taming. (I am un-tamable)

---but the best place to get info beyond the superficial or anecdotal is to look it up. Find literature or even books on the topic.

At the other end of the spectrum is rapid rope bondage (might be talking out my ass, but if I recall correctly, there is an applicable Japanese term for this style of quick and less artful rope bondage that was taught as a police tactic during some period or other). It is more akin to what you might see at a rodeo or, barring actual exposure, what you might imagine occurring during a police chase if the cops all had lassos. It is faster, simpler, and generally more aggressive than shibari or any other form of rope bondage that emphasizes detail.

Beyond rope, there are other forms of bondage in leather and latex, which may be strips or premade harnesses; metal which can be chain or premade devices like chastity belts, manages, or other locking devices; furniture to which one is bound via various means; and extramechanical means like vacuum sealing.

There are a number of safety precautions to consider when practicing bondage including positioning, tightness, and even allergies.

I suppose the first and foremost rule is to ensure that you have a means of escaping from bondage should your binder suddenly stroke out and literally leave you hanging. After that, a good rule to remember is that you should not practice suspension bondage that focuses on the neck. This is called hanging as can quickly become fatal. When practicing tight bondage, consider that certain areas (typically around joints) are more susceptible to cutting off circulation and should not be the resting points for any tight, long term bondage or body weight during suspension play.

Great comments from both responders. There are excellent videos on YouTube showing many forms of bondage to include tutelage in proper ties, ropes to use, safety preparations (such as having a pair of surgical scissors available when tying in the event you need to remove the ropes in an emergency). Some of the videos are adult oriented. Of course there are probably as many bad videos, so be cautious in your research. Good hunting!

Bondage can be any form of restraint, and isn't specific to simply rope. Anything can be used. Silk scarves, a t-shirts, Duct tape, cuffs, etc.
With rope bondage, there is suspension, floor work, shibari (as mentioned) and a combination of the three. Some like it to be artistic, others, simply functional.

Precautions:::: SO glad you asked!

Always keep safety sheers on hand! ALWAYS!
Check limbs for coldness. If limbs feel cold, they are loosing circulations and you have minutes to release them before damage sets in. Blue coloring is common, so touch your rope bottom often!
Most ties can only be held 15 minutes for newbies. Practice makes perfect.

If you're looking for some resources, check out theduchy.com (great site), and youtube tutorials by Rory's Brainwork's.
Some great books are "Two Knotty Boys- back on the ropes" and Midori has some excellent Japanese bondage books. She's also on FB and does live performances.

Epic rope makes the most beautiful hemp and jute rope I've ever seen!

Someone on the cage once told me (and its good advice) to buy a small book on human anatomy, you don't need to be an expert in it but knowing where sensitive ligaments are, such as the wrist, ankle and back of knee will help you avoid damaging them on your rope bunny.

I think many points have been mentioned up above;
- Always communicate with your partner about what your doing with the tie (if its a scene then prearrange it)
- Never tie around the neck (that's just asking for trouble)
- Always leave enough room in a tie to get a finger under the ropes (to ensure its not too tight)
- Check circulation (gently pinch fingers and toes etc see how long it takes the color to return to them)
- No cinching ties around the "columns" (limbs being tied) always use a knot that will cinch on itself not the person
- Always have a pair of safety scissors to hand (not kitchen scissors, not garden scissors, SAFETY scissors! like you'd use for bandages)
- NEVER leave your immobilized rope bunny unattended in a tie (there are some scenes where damsel A is tied and locked in a cupboard for hours or whatever in porn but, believe you me, there is someone right outside that door listening for trouble). I say immobilized because one can still walk around in a Hishi Karada harness, just stay nearby.
- Consider a "drop" item for safety, especially important if your rope bunny is gagged as well a "drop" item is something that can be held in the hand and when it is dropped the tie stops, it can be anything that makes a noise when it hits the floor, bell/weight/etc.
- NEVER (this goes for any kink and feed back into point 1 on communication) change up what you are doing on a whim, ALWAYS check with your partner and their comfort level
- YouTube sites I'd recommend are "learning the ropes" and "Rory's Brainworks"

apologies that's a very long list but rope play can be VERY dangerous and should be treated with respect and caution before diving into it (like any kink play)
