wtf...
Im going to do something I don’t normally do but here goes. The Muse is going to vent. There may be cussing.
I am on my second 12 hour shift. By the time Monday night surrenders to Tuesday morning I will already have 36 hours for the week, with three more work days to follow. Scheduled overtime.
I normally would not mind this if: 1. We had the adequate amount of staff to support all the residents, 2. The residents were not flipping the F out tonight (seriously), and 3. I don’t know... I’m sure I’ll think of something else. OH!!! 3. If I were getting paid as much as all the other Medication Aides ... as I have been here longest, have more responsibilities and train those coming in... who get paid more... brand new.
So I come in to work at 7pm and discover that I’ll be in charge of not just one unit but the entire building for our busy shift. And by the way, Muse... you are only going to have three aids total to help care for the 60 residents while you pass meds. 2 of the aids are required to be in the unit with only 19 residents. That leaves myself (whose busy passing meds) and one aid to care for the 40 residents remaining.
I have one resident with a cognitive impairment... peeing all over the common area living room. Another resident cussing because he can’t go poking around inside the nurses station to find his glasses at 2am......And another resident who keeps messing with his urostomy tube so that it looks like a murder scene every time we go check on him.
Im sooooo done.
I just had to vent. I love my residents and I’d love to not be stressed out so I could deal with all of this. I’ve managed to have patience thus far.
