The primary way a dominant should be getting power, how they exert their will, is NOT  through fear and manipulation but through rewards and pos reinforcement, affirmation giving people reasons to listen to them .reasons for actions. DISCIPLINE , Not punishment. Of course there is a stick but it should never be the ‘go to’ strategy.A submissive needs must be met. 
You are not a submissive just so a Dom can exert his will on to you .You are in this for a power Exchange dynamic ... .
